New laptop, Switchable GPU problems

Bought a MSI CX700NF. Runs great installed mdsn windows 7 64-bit, however I'm having problems running the nvidia gpu over Intel in GTA4. Even in Nvidia control panel setting the profile doesn't switch it. There is no BIOS option to just enable Nvidia only gpu, so my question is there any work around?

Also ThrottleStop should allow me to run the cpu at non turbo speeds and not any lower. I disabled speedstep in the bios & made sure power options are all correct. Problem is I still idle 1200mhz when it should be 2400mhz. again, any work around for this?

CPU-Z is a MHz validation tool. When your CPU is lightly loaded or using the low power C States like C1E, C3 or C6; CPU-Z ignores what your CPU is really doing internally.

ThrottleStop uses high performance timers within the CPU and a monitoring method recommended by Intel to show you exactly what your CPU is doing. ThrottleStop does not show your CPU locked to the 12 multiplier so that means it isn't.

The only way to lock your CPU to a fixed multiplier is you would need to disable all of the above C States. On a laptop, that is usually not a good thing to do because it will consume more power and it will run hotter. Disabling C3 and C6 can also interfere with getting full turbo boost out of your CPU. On locked CPUs, Inactive cores need to be able to go into C3 or C6 so the active cores can use a higher multiplier. Your locked mobile CPU works a little differently than an Extreme XM or unlocked K series desktop CPU.

If your bios does not let you disable all the C States then there is a Windows hack that can accomplish the same thing. Unfortunately this mod will disable all of the low power C States including C1 so your laptop will feel like a furnace. This might be OK for some bench testing but it wouldn't be a good thing for every day use and with a multiplier locked CPU, performance will probably be worse.

For ThrottleStop to work correctly, you need EIST - SpeedStep to be enabled.

Thank you! rep+

I have 2 windows installed, this one only being High performance and the other being only battery life so I don't mind disabling C states.
