Vsync # bad gaming. Is my pc not good enough for the game?

If I turn on my Vsync my game does not run smoothly any more. It look lag, as if my pc is not fit enough for the game. Is there any reason why that happens and how can I fix it if I do not want to turn of Vsync? smile.gif

V-sync require the game to run at a constant 60fps. If your card can't manage it, it switches to 30fps thus inducing display and input delays, that's what you call lag.
Unfortunately, the only fix for this performance loss is to switch v-sinc off, or the hardware solution : get a new card.
Now you have a 7800 series is that correct ? which one ? And does it do the same on every game ? You are never safe from a driver problem but it is most likely a lack of power.

Yep, using 7870 XT from Club 3d. Overclocked to # memory clock 1600, coreclock 1200, I adjust nothing else.

This lag happens in mostly all of my games. I could not adjust the core voltage when overlcocking because it can`t be adjusted maybe my GPU does not support that option. I can adjust the power limit though but (I have not adjust the power limit). will the lags cut-off if I adjust the power limite? or its the core voltage that can solve this issues or what is wrong with my card?

There is nothing wrong with your card, its just the way vsync works. I wont go into particulars but its holding up frames and thus causing input lag or causing in some cases micro stutter.

Check in your video drivers for which Vsync option is enabled ( i wouldnt use in-game vsync ever) and make sure its not set to any form of adaptive vsync. This would cause the game to run at half refresh rate (or in other words cap it at 30fps) with doubled up frames to improve the illusion of smooth playback if you cant maintain a constant 60fps (or whatever your monitors refresh rate is). I havnt owned an ATI/AMD card in some years so i dont know what their current control panel looks like.

Just out of curiosity why do you not want to disable vsync? If i were you i would use some kind of soft framerate cap through something like MSI afterburner instead (and set it to 1.25 to 2x your refresh). VSync will not improve visual quality in any way unless you have excessive screen tearing from framerate being over refresh rate.

Thanks. I get the idea behind the lags and Vsync issues now. I will switch Vsync off any way- if i don`t really benefit from it.

when I said "power" I was talking about computing power but anyways v-sync is just not that big of a deal, switch it off ;-)
