How is this handled by a stand alone player?
From what I recall the stand alone players these days have to get internet access if you have a problem with a disc and then they update. But I've never had to update my BD drive outside of some hardware related releases to fix some issues with my specific drive; I thought that the software players need new keys and they charge you for it. Hence why I gave up on that route and invested in MakeMkv. Sure it would be nice not to have to take up HDD space and wait for a rip to be made; but I rather not be nickle and dimed every time a software company wants to make money for holding the keys.
If only someone could make an add-on to XBMC that allowed straight from the bluray playback. I would pay coin for that. (Linux version needed of course).
