Raising "Min Frames Per Second"?

Thread Starter
Hey Everyone,

I recently upgraded to SLI GTX 670 (first one was PNY second one is Galaxy, both 2GB). Now obviously the MAX frames per second went up decently, but my MIN fps stayed about the same as it was with 1 gpu. This is for all games. But my question is: Is there a way to increase MINIMUM Fps?

I'm guessing its my CPU, I have no problem buying a new one if its the case.

Look up GPU and CPU usage in game where you are experiencing a low minimum FPS and report the results here. thumb.gif A good and quick way to see if it's your CPU would be to overclock it as much as you can and see if there is an improvement.

SLI have a tendency to increase your max FPS much more than your minimum / average, which results in inflated numbers in benchmarks. Still I believe that your minimum FPS should not be the same than before.

Alright here's what I've got:

Farcry 3 - 1080p, no AA, Ultra, DX11
GPU usage about 50%
Frames dip to 45 in intense areas

Battlefield 3 - 1080p, no AA, Ultra
GPU usage about 45%
Frames dip to 47 in intense areas

Crysis 2 - 1080p, no AA, Ultra
GPU usage about 50%
Frames dip to 50 intense areas

GPU usage goes up to 80%-90% when I look at the ground or sky

Tested each card individually, both work normal.

I'm thinking my SLI is not working properly

I notice that a higher lowest FPS in UNIGINE benchmarks also helps for a higher score from comparing myself to similar gpu's. For myself a better cpu could raise my lower FPS.

Yep, there's definitively something wrong.

Did you do a clean driver install when you installed your second card? Also make sure that you downloaded the SLI profiles.
And how is your CPU usage ?

That points pretty strongly to a CPU bottleneck. Can you monitor CPU usage % as well?

My guess is your min frame rate wasn't being caused by your gpu to begin with, probably the 2.8ghz i7 920. Try overclocking it?

With multiple GPU setups, there is extra emphasis on the CPU and memory speeds. Push both as far as you reasonably can, and see how it affects your system performance.

Sorry for the late response. CPU usuage is about 60% - 65%. I use the 320.18 drivers, and I've formated and still got the same fps.

Most games won't use 8 threads so it won't be pegged at 100%, are any cores at 100% while gaming?
