The other part of it is, we all knew going in that the architecture wasn't going to be a GTX 680/780/7950/7970 so there was only going to be so much they could do with it, and now 3 OSes using countless CPU cycles and RAM for features I personally would never use.

Adds to the disappointment.
i can understand why their doing what they are because back when i was purely a console gamer stuff like that is what i wanted becuase my computer was an ancient pos.. it even struggled with d2 at the time so i can see where their coming from but come on.. they could have done alot better

5 billion transistors, 8 GB RAM and a 500 GB HDD - all the specs they said while on stage IIRC, not really that much information.
TV, Bing, Internet Explorer, Kintect 2.0 and an HD dog.

It was a terrible reveal.

Why have a special event to reveal ANYTHING, if you're going to wait to show the rest at E3? I mean if E3 is so soon, then they should have everything done already, right? I mean, there was basically no new information at all. You got to see what it looks like, but that's about it. They announced a few games for it, which weren't a surprise, and they gave vague descriptions of the specs, again it was not a surprise.

You only get once change to make a first impression. Come with the big guns or wait to reveal the console at E3 with said games.

I added a poll so people of OCN can also gauge their own reception.

6 Poll Question, Starting Positive to Neutral to Negative, with an opt out answer.

Edit: Just remember, no one opinion is better than anyone elses. It is perfectly okay not to "hate" the Xbox One, just don't expect the majority to agree with you on this one.

Like others said, you only get to make one good first impression, however they might be able to change that with the E3 reveal, but the question I ask is: why ? Why would they deliberately give themselves a ton of extra work to re-write the first impression ?

The first impression is what a company (if it is competent enough) aims for the console, so either Microsoft is not competent and naively thinks that we live in a perfectly rational and segmented world where "Let's do a vague specs announcement and talk about the new features at this event and then let's just give a teaser for the games at the end in order to make the connection for E3 in a few weeks" actually makes sense, or they did in fact do everything according to plan and effectively changed their core audience for the device.

I don't believe the first one to be right, because this shows a pattern as of late: they are just inept at making a product lately, they disregard their core audience, putting their targeted new audience first.... exactly like they did with Windows 8. It's no wonder people are disappointed, Microsoft shows no respect for their user base and tries to leverage the brand name to try to conquer new markets.

Then they will spend huge amounts of time and money to try to win back their original customers. Why does Microsoft have to have all this drama ?

Liked :
Instant switching between aps / games / dashboard

Don't Care :
Split screen aps
Cable box pass through (yeah you still need a cable box)
Skype

Hated :
EA Sports Partnership (well duh)
Games with graphics that only looked almost last gen during all but the (pre-rendered) extra slow-mo parts (I can't be the only one who thought they looked mostly awful)
Required Kinect... This will not fly as my current gaming screen is less than 18" from my nose.
Small HDD (500GB won't be nearly enough with mandatory installs)

Other thoughts :
Seems they (everyone involved in this project) are forgetting that gameplay is "KING" ! ! ! Nobody really cares if IW can map individual hairs to an arm or have battered fingernails on the hands. Sure it looks pretty but how often are you actually going to see that while running through a game?!? It really seems like they are shooting for the 40yo crowd who works all day at the office and manage their fantasy sports leagues during their breaks and head home to watch the game in their underwear. =P

Of course MS could has some absolutely killer games to reveal at E3 as well as a more refined and informative presentation hopefully given by someone who actually has some enthusiasm, but for now I will pass on the XBO. (really Xbox One is the best they can come up with?!?)
