It doesn't, and you aren't factoring the warranty nor the fact that they are used goods. My rule of thumb for 2nd hand goods is:

-25% off just for a used product (provided it has warranty).
-25-30% off if its new but has no warranty.
-40-60% if its not new nor has any warranty.

So, provided you can get a product that performs better than this one (GTX660 Ti) at almost the same price AND full warranty, it makes no sense to buy those.

PS: GTX660 Ti vs GTX670.

Is the GTX670 only a 10% better than a GTX580?

It isn't:

I wouldn't pay more than $200 for each GTX580.

Pretty much this. Both 660ti and 7870 LE offer 580+ lvl of performance and cost similar or less as new.

are the 590's still decent? i have a friend who has 2 580's and 1 590, i'm hoping to get them at a good price and resell them, those benchmarks you posted, it is the 580 1.5 ref, not the 580 3gb model

Having owned two 3gb 580's I would recommend against this purchase at this point in time

The cards get really hot in DX11 titles with Tessalation and often require additional voltage to run stable

Better off getting a pair of 660TI's

I sold a single GTX 580 Phantom 3gb to my friend for £250 almost exactly a year ago. The card still has some warranty left, and £250 for a 580 back then was an absolute steal considering it was £450 new here in the UK.

I wouldn't recommend getting the 580, if you have that kind of cash, just wait a little bit more until you can afford a single GTX 770. Tell your friend to sell them elsewhere he'll get more dosh. It's only a good deal if you get them ultra-cheap, where you literally cannot get the same performance for that kind of cash.
