Death of a cpu :(

Alright, simple background on the history of my pc, had it for 3 years, recently hiccuped with a diode exploding and reporting overheating failures when cold...

Anyhoo after getting that all fixed and back from the warrenty work (bonus having it for 5 years), here's what happened.

I had to get myself another psu, so I did, a 420watt for a gateway pc, 2 hd's, 2 dvd drives, 2 video cards, 1 sound, 3x80mm fans, 2x40mm, and that's about it, give or take.

Anyhoo, originally the pc came with a 2.40ghz northwood celeron, not "to" bad, but the mobo is crap for oc'ing.

I for the past year approx have had a 3.20ghz celeron D 478 prescott in there. And because of the warrenty work I had to take it out and put the original in, and practically empty the case of my upgrades.

After getting my case back (2.4 is in it right now), after cleaning both of the cpu's (2.4 and 3.2) of alllll the thermal paste, (properly, alcohol, certified wipes of sorts, dry originally, I have a pic if anyone really wants to know, hehe).

Anyhoo, So I tried putting in the 3.2 celeron... it wouldn't fit.... ???? (proper corner with the lesser pins was in the right corner, etc, AND the little latch thinglet on the side was up....).

So I took it back out and looked, and sure enough......*terror music*, O_O a pin was bent! O_O

So.... I tried to fix it....bending a few other pins, then eventually got the 4 or 5 pins un bent and straight.... (my eyes were seeing pins for hours afterwards, so shiny....)....

And.... I was able to put it in , and lock it, put the thermal paste on, heatsink/fan masscool thing. Then... oi, I finally was able to boot it up....

And.... I saw the gateway screen, my keyboard responded.... (u know, checking to see if numlock light goes on/off, ). And... it sat there... at the Press F2 for bios, or F8 / Del (whatever it is) for boot menu... and sat there... and sat there....

So after all that the 3.2 didn't work.

So I had to put in the 2.4 and found out my harddrives wern't powered, then fixing that my dvd drives wern't..... yeah, Just had to figure out the proper wiring with this new psu. It has 6x sata power plug's that i'll never use in this case (mobo goes *** re: sata, no clue, no parts, hehe). And 2x pci express cables..... for powering them....

*Side note, i'm curious...how can I jerry rig the pci-e power cables to my pci (old skool) video cards....^_^ UBER oc for pci....^_^ (and melt of course, lol).

So... my 3.2 is dead, and i'm stuck on 2.40...prescott... until late jan, when I can afford myself a core 2 duo rig... o_o

Eeeek
