My First Intel Build- Budget 3D Rendering

Thread Starter
This is the first build that I ever made so it might be very bad or good (I don't have much experience so i really couldn't know) I'm not set on getting it yet, but I'm looking for opinions on how good i did for my first try. All the purchased stuff i already have, except for the stick of RAM, its free because it comes with the motherboard deal.

Anyway here is my build:

I would personally go for the FX 8320. It will give you the same 3d rendering performance as the 3770k for half the price.

OP, compliments on what looks like a good build. I would suggest doubling the RAM as a start. 16GB just isn't enough. I just set out building "the Fridge" in my sig because Rhino laughed at 16GB and said "Windows does not have enough memory; Save your work and reboot your computer". Yeah, I reBOOTed it.

I've been scouring the CAD and Photoshop forums and the AMD ATI w5000 seems to be an epic awesome video card right now. AMD also has a 1/2 off program right now for this card.

The other thing I'm seeing a LOT is claims that a Xeon has more memory throughput than a comparable Core i7. If this is true, it would make a strong case to buy a Xeon that is able to be paired with another one (some future-proofing when you get a dual-xeon motherboard). I would actually like confirmation about the memory claim, so I'll probably go ask in the Intel CPU area.

The motherboard (extreme 4) has low quality mofsets and gives iffy voltage readings. Swap it for a Gigabyte z77x-d3 or (if overclocking) a z77x-UD3, and your build should be golden (assuming you haven't ought the mobo already)

I toook some of the suggestions I got, and here is my second revision for my parts list:
http://pcpartpicker.com/user/JakeAnderson/saved/1DXK

What do you guys think of this new revision? Am I getting any closer to what would be a nice build?

(I'm willing to spend up to $1,000 or possibly up to $1,200 on this build if it would mean getting better parts)

Not really. He's gonna use the computer for 3d modelling and rendering, check the Cinebench and 3d modelling sections of the anandtech comparison, The FX 8320 /50 give a bit more performance in those areas for half the price. It also gives the same performance as The 3770k in Mental ray and Iray rendering.

http://www.behardware.com/art/imprimer/880/

About the videocard, since Fermi a lot of users reported reduced viewport performance in 3dsmax, blender and maya. My 660 Ti has never had a problem handling any scene I've done, but I work with pretty simple ones (Product design presentations) You may want to research a bit about this issue (It might be solved by this point) and could probably go for a 7870 / 7870 Tahiti LE or 7950 for around the same price as de 660 Ti.

Everything else looks pretty good in the build, quite a nice budget 3d modelling rig.

i have the 660Ti on there because I alredly own it. Its in my current rig. which is a Dell (Yeah i know its bad) and the 8800GT that was in it originally overheated because Dell doesn't know how to set fan speeds. Even when i was maxing out rendering and gaming, the fans would never go over 25% I started noticing problems one day, and got a fan control program to force the fans to go higher but by then it was too late, Dell had already put the card on Death Row.

Anyway, i will primarily be using this rig for rendering in VRay, in which the 8350 actually does better (This chart is render times):

I was suprised when i came over those findings too, but it seems like the 8350 will be worth it even though its cheaper.
