G1.Sniper 2 Help

Thread Starter
Hi there guys,

I have a Gigabyte G1.Sniper 2 motherboard and I'm having some issues with it.

It's currently loaded with the Award F5 bios provided from Gigabyte's site. I have an i7-3770k loaded in it, and when I go into the bios to change options for the multiplier I'm locked between 35-39x multiplier. How do I fix this?

Other issues:
LONG boot/post, it will post to Gigabytes Post screen and locate the 3 SSD's in my computer (no HDD's installed) and then move to an AHCI post and search for them again. Both posts take about 15 seconds, useless is it not?

F5 is the newest bios for the board released on Gigabyte's website, however I have seen in some other threads a UEFI bios available for the board (beta) but Gigabyte wont acknowledge that it exists. Does anyone have any word on it? (ill post the other sites thread if requested, not sure if I can now)

The board is currently bricked as @bios messed up and bricked the CMOS/Dual Bios chips, but I would like to load up my new one (coming in from RMA) as quickly as possible...

Any tips?

To try and wake the board up you can take the BIOS battery out and short out the contacts in the battery holder for 10-20 seconds. Then hold in any bios reset switches for the same amount of time. If there is any BIOS reset jumpers youcan do the same thing to them. Then leave it alone for a minute or two. After all of that install the battery and try to get it to boot to the POST screen with just the proc, and a stick of ram in it. I have a Gigabyte z77x -up7 that I got second hand that had a bad flash on the first BIOS chip. I tried other tricks and crap that I read on forums to wake up dead board with bad flashes. I read through the mobo book and it explained something similar to what I did as a way to repair a bad flash or to "hard reset" after flashing. The trick worked and responded to booting up to the system disk drive error. You might try that and see if it works or not. Nothing to lose since it's free to try.

As for the other things I have no idea. Maybe the double search for disks is due to a RAID setup or the drives are on the RAID controller ports so the onboard RAID is detecting the drives along with the main system. The restricted multi might be a fugged BIOS, which is what it looks like you thought too since to you tried to flash it (maybe I read it wrong).

The multiplier itself was locked when I was using F5 before even trying to flash it.

Right now its not even posting, if I could get it to the Qflash utility we would be golden.

I'm kinda at a loss as to why the proc has a locked multi. I found this on Anandtech:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2260738

They were blaming it on a crippled BIOS but some other were saying it was crippled on purpose due to it being on a entry level board. The Sniper boards aren't entry level though IMO.

On this site one user said after he reseated his proc it cleared it up:
http://www.project1999.org/forums/showthread.php?t=95593

Sounds kinda funky to me. I haven't ever run across this before so I'm speaking from limited experience.

I had the same issue as you did with my P67A-GD65 OP. There is some firmware called IMEI (Intel Management Engine Interface). You need version 8 in order to unlock voltage and OC on Ivy CPUs. You'd probably be able to OC a Sandy on the old BIOS if it's that. Like you, I also tried to flash the BIOS of my P67A-GD65 and bricked it because it could not update the IMEI 8 firmware and hung.

I bought a Z77 board, RMA'd the P67 and problems were gone. The P67 returned and is currently sealed in its box for a couple of months now already tongue.gif. In my case, the board hung because I had a rev B2 board and apparently, that one wasn't supported by Intel wth.gif. Pretty sure it should now be able to OC the Ivy though, since I got a B3 back with latest BIOS.
