Office 2013 / Office 365 issues

Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct forum for this but I'm researching an issue that my employer is having regarding proper licensing of Office 365 or Office 2013.

Here's the deal:

We use a homegrown Microsoft Access based software to run basically the whole company. Every employee uses this locally on their workstation (about 50-60 seats). Currently we are on Office 2003, and have a volume license deal for office 2003. We also have some users that work remotely, using Remote Desktop Protocol to connect to one of our 4 servers (three of them running Server 2008 R2 and one on Server 2012). The remote users also use Office on the server side.

We are needing to move to Office 365 for a variety of reasons, however for the near future we need to have downgrade rights for Access to leave it on the 2010 version (due to issues with our software). Eventually when we get our software fixed we'd like to move Access up to the 2013 version. We have been looking at the Office 365 subscription plan because it would give us licenses to use the full office software and future upgrades.

Here are the issues we are trying to overcome:

1) Office 365 will not install when run on a Windows Server 2008 R2 or Windows Server 2012 machine. The web-deploy software is hardwired to refuse to run on these OS's.
2) No way to obtain serial numbers for downgrade rights with Office 365.
3) Unclear legal language as to whether Office 365 is even usable in a remote desktop session.
4) Mixed and contradicting info from Microsoft and reseller partners as to whether a volume license program or Software Assurance is needed.

If anyone has insight into these issues it would be appreciated.

What kind of license do you have? You should have two free tech support calls to Microsoft included with most plans. Just call them and they'll be able to explain it.
