Not really, Intel is all about lowering power consumption and better igp, they achieved that.

Now what is bulldozer all about? Did they achieved anything? Yes they did something, they achieved to put in moar cores, but performance per core suffered. In fact, the phenom ii is better than bulldozer in every aspect.

Haswell is better than ivy, so it's not a flop like faildozer.

Bulldozer had less IPC then thuban. Haswell has more IPC then ivy.

Less IPC while consuming more power. Hardly comparable to ivy-haswell.

Bulldozer's goal was to scale to multiple cores with integer based workloads for servers. Or at least that's what AMD was claiming.

How come you guys can eat up Intel marketing going "we released a turd but it's fine because we meant for it to be a turd, power consumption is all that matters" yet AMD going "we released a turd, but it was meant for servers, so that's all that matters" and AMD is the bad guy with a failure?

We are enthusiasts, we want more performance. Performance in areas that don't matter to us are not something we should be concerned about.

This is a failure. Intel has released a new CPU that costs more than FX 8350 yet underperforms in most tasks. Look at the results, when was the last time Intel released a new processor that cost more and lost to an AMD so much?

Please, stop going "well it's still a success because Intel is saying Haswell is about iGPU and power!" You might as well go "consoles are a success look at how many people buy them! It's good for us!" as we get dumped on by poor quality console ports.

This is tragic for all of us, whether you love AMD or not. It means we're dead to Intel and they don't care about us anymore. So please, for the love of whatever you believe in, stop defending the people who basically just said they don't care about us.

Intel just friendzoned us hard with Haswell, and if you can't see that and you feel like clinging to the mistress who is going to continually crush your heart then, by all means, please continue to defend this abomination by saying "it's all about the power consumption and iGPU" when it still is slaughtered by ARM for power consumption and AMD still crushes it in actual games for GPU.

You have to give AMD some credit on actually making their new architecture work (though Piledriver should've been Bulldozer).

Intel's track record?

Netburst: Fail
Itanium: On life support

Haswell is not a turd, it has at least the same performance as ivy while using less power, and have a better igp.
If it performs worse than ivy like bulldozer performs worse than phenom ii then yes it is a turd, but it is not.

Haswell is better than ivy, can you say the same with bulldozer and phenom ii?

Netburst came out in 2000. Why even bring it up?

Did you read my post? Can you explain to me how better iGPU and lower power consumption helps us, the enthusiasts? Is lower power consumption going to increase your render times? Is it going to give you more FPS? Is it going to let you fold more?

It's a disaster, and a complete failure (for us). You're arguing with me but all I'm seeing is regurgitation of marketing slides about power consumption and iGPU. It's not a Bulldozer or Netburst level event but two years for these kinds of gains are laughable.

How is it better than Ivy? It's barely better nearly all of the time. We waited two years for a new architecture and we got barely any improvement at all.

And please, don't bring up that useless marketing IPC number. You can sit here and go "BUT BD HAD WORSE IPC!!" but BD was a high frequency low IPC design and Phenom wasn't. They have the same performance goals but a different formula to reach it.

Look at this, we got skunked:

I'd be interested in haswell for a low power file server... want to see about the haswell based celeron's / pentiums... Need to replace my overclocked opteron 180 eventually rolleyes.gif Then again when I replace the 8350 w/ steamroller I can always downclock the 8350 and drop it down to a dual core to save tons of power and still have plenty of grunt for those taks...decisions decisions...

On topic:

Haswell *from what we've seen* is pretty disappointing, though. Wish intel would just make the i3 a true quad, make the i5 the quad + ht and make the i7 a 6 core + ht then for the Haswell-e line bring a 8 core atleast... whenever that day comes rolleyes.gif

Edit:

Agreed.
