Fx 8350 or haswell i5 - Page 8

Honestly I game quite a bit with my 8350, I run Word of Tanks, ~2-3 hours a night, crysis2/3 ~1-2 hours a night, bioshock infinite to break up the monotony of the aforementioned, XIII for nostalgia and a good story, just started plaing DOTA 2 and the newest Warhammer 40K and I have ZERO issues. This is on my sig rig, 8350 with mild OC of 4.5, 16GB of corsair XMS3 1333MHz 9 might swap em out for 8GB of gskill trident 2400mhz) and an msi TF III 7950, again NO ISSUES helmetsmiley.png

*ETA* good job cleaning up ALATAR thumb.gif

*EATA* if you notice I have entered the win your ultimate rig contest and I did choose to go Intel on that particular build if I did win wink.gif

I will try my best to be impartial here. I have used AMD for a while and they have served me very well so far and are quite cheap and offer a better deal for the price so I will be continuing with AMD. What you may notice however is that If you have a powerful GPU say a HD7970 or anything better than that you may get a CPU bottleneck with the FX8350, that can usually be remedied with an overclock and AMD CPUs do overclock very well.

Now most AMD motherboards are cheaper than Intel motherboards (AFAIK the most expensive AMD motherboard is the ASUS crosshair V Formula-z at $220 on neweg). However Intel CPU's use less power than AMD CPU's Intel CPU's perform much better with single threaded applications but AMD outperforms it when you can use all the cores. How fast software can become properly multithreaded? I don't know but the sooner it is the more it will be able to take advantage of AMD CPU's.

again back on AMD's side I dare say that the future looks good for them, They have been steadily improving and their hardware is being used in consoles to which means there is a chance that games will run better on AMD hardware, (I can't say that for sure though). Lastly the next Steamroller CPU's will use the same AM3+ socket that Piledriver uses. I don't know about Excavator though.

Also another thing is that you can't compare CPU's without looking at what the chipsets of each CPU offer. here is a page talking about the differences much better than I can explain them: http://www.gamersnexus.net/guides/952-chipset-naming-conventions

Personally I would say that If you are on a budget or use multithreadedapplications (are there even any proper ones yet?) grab the AMD otherwise Intel CPU, also get the Intel if there are any features unique to it that win you over..

Hope this helps

haswell donest look that great so i would go for fx 8350

Haswell will still kick the 8350, and things will improve with the arch, not a backwards step.

Even if the new console architecture makes future games deeply multi-threaded and thus favors AMD, you won't see the impact of that for a couple of years at the least, by which time you will probably be considering your next CPU upgrade anyway. Current developer tools used to write software don't target anything more than four cores. The FX-8350 is an excellent CPU and there are many scenarios where it shines and is a better value than Intel, but gaming isn't one of them. Most games will do better on Ivy Bridge, let alone Haswell when it comes out.

I wouldn't be at all shocked if game titles that come out in 2018 run better on an 8350 than they do on Ivy, but in 2018, you wouldn't using either one to run those games in the first place.

For the AMD CPU = more money for a GPU, arguments, we'd need to know all the parts needed, exact budgets etc to say which option is better.

3570K maybe since it's a bit behind the 8350 in multithreaded loads but the 3770K is faster in almost every way. When all cores are perfectly utilized the core count doesn't matter. Only performance does and when all cores are utilized the 8350 can't really beat a 3770K.

However since cores will not be perfectly utilized in games due to their nature, it's pretty unlikely that we'll ever see an 8350 ever beat a 3570K in majority of the cases. And even if we did both CPUs would be way too dated at that point anyway.

as i said a $900 budget which pretty much outs I7 and haswell all together as was already previously discussed which pretty much leaves him with Intel I5 3570k or AMD FX 8350 which either way will be if he goes with quality motherboard / CPU / ram / PSU will be around $500-$600 not including case or GPU so at some point he needs to manage the cost and the AMD FX 8350 /8320 will allow for around $75 or more to be cut off and still remain with high end quality components as far as CPU / ram / motherboard / PSU go leaving him more to place toward GPU and tower a good tower not to pretty but has the options for gaming you want to look for is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A8EILUE/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 $49.99 for mid tower with option for 8 fans in it for airflow 4x 140mm and 4x 120mm all at same time being in machine running for motherboard i cant recomend enough because it is top tiered AMD board with awesome 5yr warranty http://www.amazon.com/ASUS-SABERTOOTH-990FX-R2-0-Motherboard/dp/B008YDJHWM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1369528253&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+sabertooth+990fx+r2.0 $179.99 for ram a good set for cheap and 1866mhz http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Desktop-Memory-CMZ16GX3M4X1866C9/dp/B006GAW948/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369528320&sr=1-2&keywords=corsair+vengence+1866mhz+16gb $151.29 lifetime warranty as far as CPU goes http://www.amazon.com/AMD-FX-8350-Eight-Core-Processor-FD8350FRHKBOX/dp/B009O7YUF6/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369529882&sr=1-1&keywords=amd+fx+8350 $194.95 other day was $174.99 as far as PSU goes http://www.amazon.com/PC-Power-Cooling-Performance-PPCMK2S750/dp/B003U29C3Q/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369528495&sr=1-4&keywords=pc+power+and+cooling+mkII $101.99 and 7yr warranty / GPU http://www.amazon.com/XFX-DisplayPort-PCI-Express-FX787ACDFC-FX-787A-CDFC/dp/B007MJGMYA/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369528653&sr=1-2&keywords=ati+hd7870 $236.34 and lifetime warranty by the way now all we got left is the hardrive i dont know what you want hardrive or SSD the SSD would put you a hair over budget http://www.amazon.com/OCZ-Technology-2-5-Inch-Warranty--VTR1-25SAT3-128G/dp/B00A9YQPME/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369528806&sr=1-1&keywords=ocz+vector+128gb $145.99 5yr warranty this totals to $1061.24 a little overbudget but everything is high quality components that will take abuse and torture and have good reliability and max potential of all hardware without bottlenecking also allow for overclocking and such and in general plenty room for expansion later basicaly with the above hardware you should pretty much be able to play nearly any game maxxed out or close to it for a few years if not add a second ati hd 7870 later to crossfire and i quarantee after that you will lol.

The ATI HD 7870 has been proven to be no slouch it is a performer and overclocks well and well lets put it this way scales crossfire wise very well so the future options will still be there with this build and the motherboard can easily handle tri SLI / trifire so it gives you the options and the motherboard will also easily accomodate the next gen AMD steamroller which you can sell the above processor and upgrade to steamroller with little extra cost if the performance increase justifies it or you just get an ich and a bit extra cash lol.

keep in mind you could buy a set of ram half size instead of 4x4gb you could buy 2x 4gb http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-240-Pin-Platforms-CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9/dp/B004CRSM4I/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369529285&sr=1-3&keywords=corsair+vengence+1866mhz $66.99 lifetime warranty and later add more also could use a regular hardrive instead of ssd http://www.amazon.com/Black-500-Desktop-Hard-Drive/dp/B008968L6M/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1369529166&sr=1-2&keywords=500gb+western+digital+caviar+black $74.99 5yr warranty that would put you right at $905.94 total and remember with amazon all these i believe have free shipping so you would have a very high end setup with your budget and everything is pretty much covered minus OS and optical drive.
