Some will argue that Macs are good for music and movie production. Well that's a very good point but not always the case.
I recently read that Linkin Park's rapper (who is responsible for most of the production) recently switched back to using Windows for example.
Besides - anyone who is determined to make music, will make that music, even on Windows. Just got to take care of your PC, (as you would take care of your car or house), so you don't lose any data.
As for movie production, I swear I saw some of the people who are making "The Hobbit", using Windows PCs. If you look up Peter Jackson's facebook page, he posted a link of them working on the movie last week.
Anyway, it boils down to personal taste again, in the end. Windows was, is and always will be the way to go for me. Besides, I'm a gamer too - how could I use mac?
I feel that one day Apple will collapse because of their monotone colour and design scheme. Just like people had enough of always buying identical, mass produced products --> Collapse of Fordism.
That's not surprising at all. A lot of block buster moves use the fastest best (as in not Apple) machines out there for both 3D effects and editing. In the future even less people will use macs as the new mac pro does not have PCI-E ports meaning you can't plug a RED ROCKET (used with RED cameras to for example decode R3D™ files in realtime ) or other similar similar accelerators.
Something like HP's Z series are really where its at when it comes to workstations.
Mac gives you 'street cred'.
And people are brainwashed into believing that OSX is the best OS for artistic things like photoshopping and movie production.
I don't hate apple / macs / ipods, I just hate how everybody thinks they're the be all and end all of computing and technology in general.
Also their business practices but I won't go there.
Enjoy your macs, enjoy the service you get for the price you pay, but don't come telling everybody else that our more powerful and customizable PC's are inferior.
Macs = Uncustomisable but great after market support and they make you look 'cool' if you care about that
PC's = More powerful, more useful but not for the majority of people who want things to just work.
