Odd
Never experienced that yet. Wonder what causes that.
I tend to run Panasonic/Cannon projectors, cinema displays, Acer touchdisplays off the thunderbolt withthe Apple Mini DP to VGA or DVI and theatre/auditorium audio systems to a XLR interface box though the audio jack. All have been plug and play.

I agree with how this debate could go on for years as Colin said. Some will say, "it's just another device." Truth is, Mac isn't just another device entirely. Sure, some will disagree with me and say it can use Unix/Linux machine code. However, let's not dig that broad and deep. In fact, I don't know if this is just me but how many of you have heard the phrase "Getting a Mac user interface to become live is more logical (or should I say that it feels right in terms of simplicity for humans to program instead of logical or needing a specific trait in order to create a device with a specific kind of structure?") I mean, if you like handles, threads, programs separate... you may like windows or another OS software's based on Linux/Unix. If you like programs that consist of more handles/threads inside (applications) and threads/handles of the OS leading to those sources/programs like the apple computers or some other OS software(s) of Unix/Linux (did I get that right because I don't understand the coding of programming yet but I do know what a handle is from a thread).

However, it's all based on the individual in my opinion. Some OS's may click for some and other OS's may click for other people. Just saying...

well i didn't get quoted once so i must not being to bad. guess it devolved in to some arguments/debates and some talk about linux. like i said it's different way of doing things. however lately apples been doing some stuff on (rude works to describe them) side of things lately. each new OSX iteration cost backwards compatibility which isn't good, even for regular users. older popular programs require stuff like parallels to use.

I also saw post about HDMI being a pain, my first though was was licensing ans what i just said above. apple kind of puts them selves first so if blu-ray or HDMI cost them money you can guarantee you will have troubles using it if at all.

I can say there at least WAS something to OSX and apple computers, they sure do look nice both physically and the software. OSX also has it's own feel but, they are making things hard for the end users. OP said he test a hackintosh, OP if you used lion or MtLion do me a favor and try to run Starcraft 1 or Warcraft 3, what happens when you try to install or run them? if you used snow leopard tell me what happens when you try to run Uniengine Heaven Benchmark or Witcher 2?

well I'm sure I'm totally off topic or just killed the conversation, i'll check back when i'm sober. biggrin.gif

only 1 reason I can think of OSX!

LOGIC STUDIO?

MACS are more suited in commercial media settings i guess. things like audio production & digital imaging?

but its not like you cant do it in windows?

ive never liked mac machines in general.

lack of driver support etc over the years has been poor!

although it has improved a fair bit tbh.

I dunno. I just like it.

I have a 13" MB Pro that I talk when I travel for work, hang out at a coffee shop or just chilling out on the couch. Battery life is great and the touchpad is awesome.

I use a PC at home, and a Mac at work. There is nothing that I find to be superior on the Mac. It's not better than a high-end Windows PC, and it's not worse. It's just different. In fact, modern Intel-based Macs are really nothing but PC's running a different OS.

If you like Mac OS X better than Windows, then there's no reason not to buy a Mac. If you don't, there's really no reason to buy one. Some people buy Macs because of social pressure, which is a silly reason IMO. I always tell people to try a good PC, not some piece of low-end garbage, and try a Mac, and decide for themselves which one they like better.

Even better is that the audio does not work plug and play. Again, every single time I connect it (and this is the only tv is has ever been connected to), I have to go in to the audio settings and make a checklist of changes, log off, and then log back in for it to work. If you disconnect the laptop or heaven forbid shut it, you have to go through the process again.

I even thought there was an issue with the laptop itself but I also bought my wife another Macbook Pro and it has the exact same issues.

The only way I figured out how to fix the audio was to go into the mac forums (where apparently this is a common issue).

I have hooked up over a dozen windows based laptops to tv's and have two media centre pc's in my house running windows. Every single one of them has been plug and play every single time.

For that alone, I would steer clear of a Mac.

Add in the formatting incompatibilities between external drives with windows and mac and the exorbitant price (my daughter's laptop cost $400 more than my Asus Ultrabook and frankly my laptop eats hers for breakfast in every category and matches in battery life + 2 year warranty first year covers drops!), I would not recommend a Mac voluntarily to anyone.

Set aside the counter intuitive nature of the OS (that is supposed to be oh so user friendly), it is simply an experience I have no interest in using for myself.

And this from a guy with 3 Iphones and 3 ipad in our house thumb.gif

What? I've had a white MacBook setup as a HTPC is this type of situation with NO A/V-resolution issues.

Also, formatting as a FAT32 allows you to have NO issues transferring external drives between OSes.

As far as comparing raw specs, of course "eating for breakfast" is what any comparably priced W7/W8 would do. Again, its the build quality and OSX that allows for the less than par specs.
