Well, I finally finished sanding the case in the last few days, and filled it with body filler. Here are some pictures of the filling process:
It took a few days to complete the body filling, because it seems to shrink when it dries, so once I filled it 3 or so time it was solid, then I started the painting process. I bought some nice black paint with a sort of texture like the case came with, I tried to get it as close as possible to what the original was. Oh, and a quick note, sorry for the crappy picture from my iPhone. Looking at them now I realize how bad quality they actually are, but don't worry, these next pictures are 2073p.
It turns out I have a really nice Canon camera in the house I never use, and thought I'd try it for the final product, and WOW!
This camera along with the new paint on the case looks AMAZING!
So anyway, a few days after the body filler was all finished up I began painting. I started this morning and ended probably an hour and a half after. It took a few coats, especially on the back side panel, that has the most surface area. But I've gotta shut up and show you these amazing pictures!
Here's what the panels all look like with their new coats of paint:
And I thought I'd add some close ups as well, see how it looks to focus on one part of the panel and unfocus the rest of it. I think it turned out alright:
Oh, and be sure to right click on the last 4 pictures and open them in a new tab. I'm sure these small thumbnails won't do justice to the actual quality! (If you can't tell I'm very proud of my measly photo taking skills
)But just to show a comparison, go to the first page and look at the photos of the case before compared to now
, I'm very pleased with my work.
Everything has been body filled, and I know in these pictures it may look like some parts of the panels are darker than others, but I can assure you when you actually look at them they have a nice solid coat of paint, color is uniform all the way along. Going to put another coat on sometime tomorrow or later tonight though just because I have an extra can of paint and more layers = better. Now time to rivet the case back together once the painting is completely finished, and begin thinking about a waterloop!
