Good morning, i have an update for you. Managed to find to those M4 allen screws from that last place i visited so off to work. Surely as you guys must know this wouldn't be any fun if all the screws went in nicely, no biggrin.gif Started fitting the screws in and noticed that they are just that tiny bit too big so i thought drilling bigger holes but that plan was discarded soon, the jump in size would've been from 3.2mm to 5mm so thats a no no. Took the mighty dremel out and started grinding those holes bigger, ofcourse that takes little time when you have to grind every hole that gets a screw so only got to do backpanel yesterday. Going to do more tomorrow after work. Enough text, couple of pics on the way.

Backpanel fully bolted together

Kinda like how those screws look but can't decide if i should paint them or not. Think i'm going to bolt this thing together and decide then biggrin.gif

One thing thats bugging me though, i spent awhile yesterday looking and wondering and i hope someone who's tried this before could notify me. Is allen screw too tall for those corners where side panels will be. I screwed top panel on for temporary testing and they didn't seem to interract in any way but the only way to know for sure is bolting this thing together and trying. If any of you know would you please tell me so i could shorten it down.

I think this concludes this post, more coming later today. Have fun and enjoy

Hello,

I like the allen screws . . . But I hear you, just when you think you have a brilliant idea the modding gods look down and laugh and say, hah . . . let's throw a wrench into things. doh.gif The dremel is a great option but I can see it will take some time.

WRT to the screw being too large, I don't have an allen screw example but I did use normal bolts to mount my window to the side panel (was going for an armoured military theme). After adding a few mods, I realized my side panel interferred with the mods because the bolts were too long. I used the dremel to cut down the offending bolts. Is it possible you could do the same for your screws if push came to shove?

Here is a link to my mod log showing the bolts http://www.overclock.net/t/1400635/case-mod-build-log-canticle-of-the-apocalypse-updated-name/10

If you look at the picture with the fans mounted on the side panel you can get an idea of the bolts. I had to cut down a few of them because they were pushing up against a mod internal door on the HD cage.

Cheers and good work . . . look forward to more.

Fen

What did i just look at >_> That build is just jaw dropping, i guess that painting took long to finish biggrin.gif Very beautiful build you got there. The problem i might have with my screws is not their lenght but it's the screw head length that might be a problem so if i have to i'll shorten screw head little bit and hope that it's still usable with allen key, if not i'll have to saw flathead to it but meh, i guess i'll find out when im done right biggrin.gif

Hello,

Thanks for the kind comments about my build. I was beginning to get the impression it was no good as I have had very little comments on my thread. I guess the battle worn look is not that popular. The paint job did take some time in order to get the camoflague correct and aging effects completed. Hopefully I will start building into it soon. biggrin.gif

I see your dillema with allen screws now that you explain it. Hopefully, your idea to shorten the screw head will work out. Let me know as I may want to use allen screws in the future.

Cheers

Fen

Ah, finally i have some luck with this build biggrin.gif Screws fit on, it's a tight fit, need to push side panel a little harder to get it on but it fits, no cutting, shortening or nothing. Only had to shorten one screw and that was the one on I/O shield right next to one of those back LED's but it's all good. Also a "happy" accident, i was wondering a couple of holes that i had no clue of removing rivets, put the case together and remembered then that oh man, there should be 3 screws there biggrin.gif Not a real biggie, you can't notice it if you don't know where to look, i would've had to shorten the screw from both ends and prolly wouldn't still fit so lucky me.

Also another accident, forgot to resize one hole on the 5.25" rack, turns out i counted needed screws wrong and ended up buying 30 instead of 31 mad.gif That 5.25" rack still feels sturdy enough without it, not going to buy one screw and one underplate, if i manage to find them i'll add them.

I will post pictures tomorrow since i now have five hours to sleep and doing nine hour shifts this week so GGWP biggrin.gif

Oh and Bad Fenny, yea sry for my poor explanation, i had just woken up and slept for four hours biggrin.gif

So the pictures have arrived as promised, enjoy

It's starting to take some shape, mobo tray and front plate installed

Front plate installed, 5.25 rack not in yet

How it looks from back, looks like i've got a little helper

First 2 5.25 bays installed, another helper it seems

Front connections installed

Top plate is installed

How do you guys like the side look

And finally power button and LED's

Yes i know, stickers are cancer but couldn't help adding a few even though they don't even match that black/green line i was going for

Here you can see the problem i mentioned before, if background is white that symbol will fade into that background

Next one on the list is probably painting those fans, i'll do it today or next week, have fun.
