P4 Help..

Thread Starter
NO NOOBS IN THIS THREAD.
->It is my dad his pc, he is docter, and he has all his files of his patients on it.

He has a p4 20x133mhz > 2.66GHz
So his memory is also 133Mhz, and it can be 200 mhz

So I wanted to lower the multipler and higher the FSB to 200, so it will still be around 2.7 GHz but with faster ram.

BUT I can't edit the multipler in the bios, the CPU is locked.

So 2 questions:

1. My solution, higher the FSB and lower the multipler wouldn't change the heat/preformance of the CPU
2. How can I unlock the P4?

you cant change intel multiplers, or unlock them.
except ES ones

you CAN increase the FSB, which will make it run faster, and wont hurt it,
taking it past 2.7gz will be fine, just keep it cool

read around for noob intel overclocking guides

50C idle seems pretty high for running at stock speed. If you intend to overclock it, I suggest you either try reseating the cooler with better thermal paste or buy a new better cooler.

Get an aftermarket cooler and some good thermal paste/compound.

See if you can adjust the CPU/memory ratio to 2:3, that way you're running 133 FSB to 200 memory

when dividers are set, the RAM is set to FSB, not the FSB to RAM

so yeah, the 1:1 and 4:3 didnt OC your CPU , it only downclocked your ram to 133 and 100Mz respectivley

Im j/w, how did you come to the conclusion that the divider changed the FSB? Did you check the speed in CPUZ?

make sure your BIOS are up to date, you can check on the Manufacturer's website
