C300 Firmware Update

Thread Starter
My computer keeps restarting itself without leaving an error. I read that updating firmware may solve this issue so I thought I'd give it a shot. I'm trying to update the firmware via USB. I've read the "how to" over and over and over and I'm not doing anything wrong, to my knowledge. After putting the .iso, which is a .zip file, onto the USB stick and restarting, it flashes a Windows 98 logo and then goes to a command line "C:\Windows\" or something of that nature. It's supposedly should start updating the firmware automatically and instead it hangs at that command line. Can anyone give me any insight?

The C300 firmware update instructions only mention using a CD method, where the ISO file is burned onto the CD.

Next, what firmware version do you currently have on your C300? If you read the guide, you know there is a stepped process to go to each firmware version, from version 0001 to 0007.

The .zip file you downloaded must be unzipped before the ISO file can be burned to a CD or USB drive. For example, the ISO file extracted from the .zip file to update from firmware 0006 to 0007 is hpCrucial_5or6_to_7.05.iso.

You may be using a bootable USB drive, but if you simply copied the .zip file to the USB drive, that will not update the firmware.
