HMM...thinking.gif

I ran two 750 core 1.05v 480s off a Kingwin Platinum 550w psu with a 4.6GHz 990x back in the day. It did ok and even passed a couple minutes of furmark, just making sure it was good enough for gaming( no shutting down during)

The Kingwin has 45.5amps on the 12v rail and the TX750 has 60-62 amps depending on what version the TX750 is.

Should more than enough, especially at said voltage/clocks.

it's the older orange version

Guess it doesn't matter anymore. OP was asking about a GTX 480 and GTS 450 power requirements, and a TX750 is more than adequate.

I did a little research in the techpowerup link regarding the HyperSLI hack, and it appears that the hack was renamed to Different SLI with HyperSLI being a hack to run SLI on non SLI boards. I also haven't seen anyone running a performance gap anywhere near as extreme as a GTX 480 with GTS 450. If I matched the clocks of the cards, will this SLI combo actually work?

P.S: I'll go ahead and rename the topic, this has nothing to do with two 480's anymore biggrin.gif

As far as I know it's a power saving feature, it doesn't actually give you a performance boot like SLI (with the exception of some notebook GPU's).

Um nope

I own a Corsair TX750 and its powering my dual EVGA GTX480's + Z77 Sabertooth + i7 3770k OC to 4.6 + 1 600GB WD Velociraptor, 1 300GB WD Velociraptor, 2 7200RPM HDD, and my Corsair H80.

only thing to note

After gaming for a couple of hours (BF3 or EVE Online x4 Clients) if i shut my PC down right after that the PSU fan stays on for upwards of 1-3 mins i assume to cool itself off

My psu did that a couple times when i ran some super OC's on my system for benching purposes, but that's probably because Rosewill didn't think when they made the PSU vents at the bottom of the challenger half the freakin size of the fan mad.gif

Anyways, back on topic here. If I were to OC (or DC) the GTS 450 to my 480's speeds, would the DifferentSLI hack work?? It would be so awesome if it would. And mathematically, that combo would yield similar results to SLI'd 460's. Not bad for an extra $50.

EDIT: It would be slightly under SLI'd 460's due to less combined TMU's on the 450/480 vs. the 460/460
