Modded Skyrim Looks like Crap.

Not sure if I installed them right, but I'm 90% certain I did.

Mods Installed:
Official HD DLC
Skyrim HD 2k Textures (Dungeons, Towns, Landscape) from Nebula
Skyrim Flora Overhaul
Landscape Texture Pack 2k
Hi Res Roads
Cinematic Fire Effects

Installed with Nexus Mod Manager
Sorted with BOSS

In game settings set to highest settings

Results

Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

These are looking a little better...little too saturated for my taste. Water looks amazing though. Textures are getting there...almost. New list of textures.

The re-texture mods are usually very subtle. You have to literally be like two inches away from the object to notice the difference.
You should get an ENB if you really want to see a difference.

Get a bump mapping mod, will make the ground textures appear 3D

You're missing out on a LOT of mods, even just graphics mods.

http://www.gnd-tech.com/content/857-Skyrim-Modding-Guide

With all of those, Skyrim is definitely in the top 10 best looking games out right now (if you're talking technical graphics and not just personal preference).

I had a bunch of issues with the shadows forming weird glitchy patterns on the sides of rocks and stuff with just about every texture mod I tried, and the only way to fix it was use the default textures again. Or just completely turn off the shadows.

The rocks on the sides of a mountain look like crap, and you can see lots of mismatching lines even from 50 feet away.

I never found a way to make the Shadows on skyrim look good. I searchedand searched for mods for months and months, and no solutions out there gave me good looking shadows with longer draw distance, and I was disappointed so I just disabled the shadows entirely. I haven't played it recently but as far as I know there is still no fix for the shadows.

Skyrim has by far the worst looking shadows I've seen in any game in recent times.

Witcher 2 with no mods at all and max settings was a way better looking game than Skyrim with mods. It also ran better on a higher end rig.

With the way you describe it, I'm sure TW2 did look better. However with all of the mods I use (and many others), Skyrim is much better looking. Pretty much every texture is redone, and most are 2048 x 2048, better vegetation, better ambient occlusion (TW2 has none), grass shadows, much better view distance (TW2 pop-in is ridiculous), better anti-aliasing, better object detail (see SMIM mod), etc. The only real advantage TW2 has is sunshafts, but it overuses them.

I no longer got a PC capable of testing the new mods, and I'm sure they've been improved. Also 2gbs of Vram isn't good enough for heavily modded skyrim. I remember finding areas with Vram bottlenecks and I had to tone the textures down a little. Particularly that swamp area outside of Solitude, for some reason my FPS literally dropped to 25fps there when its normally pegged at 60fps everywhere else in the game. I checked my Vram usage, and it was pegged out in that area. I think it was the fog coming off the water combined with lots of water effects on the screen at the same time creating ripples in the water in multiple spots, etc.

^ Good point, though with all of the mods in that link I provided in my first post, 2GB proved to be the absolute minimum. I have a 2GB card and I run all of those fine at 60 FPS (have to keep ambient occlusion set to Performance however, which hardly looks any worse than Quality or High Quality). Since the OP has a 7870, I think he'll be fine.

Most other people around here run Skyrim with more or less the same graphics mods (maybe a few less texture mods), but they use ENB instead of RCRN. ENB might be what pushes people past the 2GB limit, since it improves shadows and adds DOF. I can't confirm this though.

I would recommend following the S.T.E.P. guide. It's very thorough and has always given me great results

http://wiki.step-project.com/STEP:2.2.5

Just a couple of quick screenshots of my game following the S.T.E.P. Performance preset.
