I was looking for a thread like this. Anyone can explain differences between Shift and Shift 2?

I also love racing games. I'm currently playing a lot of F1 2012, but it's not too good and I've had a lot of problems with online. I mean the gameplay is awesome, it's good, acceptable, but not great. Until I wait for pCars I thought I'd give it a try to the shift series. I always avoided NFS after Pro street, but it seems that shift is pretty good for your comments guys.

PS: I'm using gamepad.

The Shift series was made by Slightly Mad Studios, the same developer working on Project Cars. Shift isn't really a NFS game at all. On Shift 2: Unleashed they eventually dropped the NFS branding. Shift 2 has better graphics, the much loved helmet cam, more cars, more tracks, night races, better AI, and better physics. Some people will argue Shift 1 is the better game but I disagree. Both games need mods to get the feel just right and after all that, Shift 2 has the extra content to push it ahead. Drifting in either game is a pain so be warned.

I wouldn't bother with a gamepad. It's a simulation racer. Sure you can use a gamepad but to get a feel for each car and track you need a wheel. Even a cheap Logitech Momo wheel would suffice. I'd almost reach and say the cheapest force feedback wheel would be better than the best gamepad.

A lot of dirt3 mentioned on here, another recent rally game is wrc3 which is not bad from trying it out a little with my wheel. Not sure if that games been mentioned yet. Also if you have the dough that game supports the D-Box code for motion simulated chairs, DIrt3 might be supported also.

I believe the Cadillac 3 month free trial still works.

In response to the OP, check out Assetto Corsa, not out yet and it'll be a little while before it's released but it might be exactly what you want.

Thanks, bookmarked.

Ok thanks. I've reading a lot of comments about the two games and I've reached the conclusion that Shift 1 is better for gameplay with gamepad, physics are better, mods are great, no bugs modded, etc. Again, all of this based on comments and opinions around the web. Anyway, I'm gonna try both, but I'll start with Shift 1, try it for a couple of weeks (modded before I even start playing, of course biggrin.gif ), then the same with Shift 2, and I'll se which one is worth sticking with.

Dude did you tried SHIFT 2 ??

with forced FXAA and maxed out I think is the best looking PC game right now, still looking for Grid 2 tough

the driving is nothing to be excited, but it is a lot better than SHIFT 1

and the Dirt series...

Dirt 2 is superb...Dirt 3 and SD are a horrible xgames mess

I will say Shift is better out of the box, as 2 has some quirky handling. The must have mods for 2 are Unofficial Community Patch and PTMu. Oh and of course the Offical patch that fixes wheel/controller lag among other things. Install this first.

Here's a bookmark page for you. You can also use that site for Shift 1, but TBO once you start playing 2 with the two mods I linked you'll see 2 is much better.

Great, thank you so much. Actually, I have been looking at those pages earlier today, and with those mods I will definitely try Shift 2 and see which one I like most. I'll put Overhaul 2.0 to shift 1 as it solves many problems also. Keep in mind I'm using a controller/gamepad, so maybe shift 2 modded is better but it's aimed for wheel users (as PTMu states in the description) so I'll probably stick around with shift.
