should i upgrade?

Hi all

i have the option to upgrade my system for a minimaloutlay (around ~$200)

my current system is

  • Intel 1366 I7-920
  • Gigabyte GA-x58A-UD5
  • 6GB Triple Chanel DDR3 Ram (unsure of speed)
  • GTX 580

and am looking at possibly upgrading to

  • Intel 1155 i7-3770K
  • some mobo
  • 8gm ram (undure on speed)
  • possibly a gtx680 or titan for more $$$

im having trouble finding a mobo though. as im w/c this system, i need the gpu in the lowest possible slot for clearence issues. so i need a bottom slot to be pcie 16x. but am having trouble finding one. also need atleast 3 pcie1 slots for my sata cards.

would also love to have msata. but not a breaker.

also,no overclocking. i dont think its needed, i dont use it hard enough. and i will also game on it, but not heaps. want to push games at hi res and high fps whit highest settings etc...

what are your thoughts?

cheers

Jason

I am in a similar position, except bought a 670 a yr ago and just ordered an SSD. If you want an increase in gaming performance, you can snag a new gfx card. I am trying to hold out a bit longer till haswell or whatever comes after it. i am hoping to be able to snag a 6 or 8 core cpu for $380ish.

If you're gonna watercool, you might want to wait till more haswell stuff is out at least.

BrisVegas, sounds you are a queenslander like me smile.gif
i would probably hold onto your system and wait for haswel to be released as coming from an x58 it is probably wise to get the latest socket. haswell is due to relase around June 4
