hi guys I need some help.
as I posted my card has come with the boost bios on both bios numbers so its set the voltage at 1.25 and if I try and lower it using afterburner and put the card under load it still says 1.25
ive flashed another msi bios to the card and again that still doing the same.

any help will be apreciated

I would love to buy one (not yours specifically ofc) and just replace the cooler, they are usually cheap enough to do so anyways (especially on ebay, etc).

I think the Sapphire and msi references might use hynix, but i dont know for sure and not sure on their core and memory voltage controls either.

My 7970 is a ref card and everything is unlocked. Pretty sure its the same with 7950 ref cards.

R7950-3GD5/OC BE G on scans website and on the box label
the box states a overclock to 830 and then a boost bios to 840 and that's what both bios switches are at boost bios.

as for the flash I used a msi bios off techpowerup for a msi twinfrozer and realised after it said boost bios.

is it boost bioses that lock the voltage control??

Look I found an interesting post about ASIC and Gigabyte 7950 model.

http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1039786590&postcount=374

This might explain why my card is running at 1.3v and the core is below 70C and the VRM (no heatsink) below 80C on air. Obviously he's talking about the old gigabyte models that had voltage unlocked, not the new Gigabyte that are 8+6 pin and that have cooler on the VRM. Yea for those you didn't know the new Gigabyte 7950 that have boost and that are voltage locked have VRM cooling and 8+6 pin, I bought 3 Gigabyte card, one for me, one for my friend (around the same time, same card, same pcb, etc) and recently I built a comp for my friend with the same card but later, now it has boost, 8+6 and cooling on the VRM. Too bad it's voltage locked.

Back to the post I linked, I think that's why MSI cards run hot TBH, most of them have high ASIC. So yea people might be like, running 1.2GHz at 1.1v or something, but running hotter than my gigabyte at 1.3v. I still don't believe that TF3 is a bad cooler, really if I remember well these cooler cooled 580 and even 480 with no problem. How could it be bad on a 7950 o_o maybe it's badly mounted or something.

I have noticed this about my 89.7% ASIC 7950, which gets hotter than most people's cards at a mere 1.119V. That doesn't however excuse the cooler for being way louder than the others at the same fan speed.

my boost bios has voltage control biggrin.gif

I was reading that voltage control wasn't available in boot bios and proceeded to look for another bios for my card, anyway I was messing around with the voltages on msi afterburner and noticing they were changing on Everest (I was using evga precision x which was showing no change when doing them)

set at stock voltage by boost bios (shown in afterburner
core voltage at idle 0.805 memory 1.552 Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
using tpu render 1.215 core 1.552 memory Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

set at voltage of 1100 using afterburner
core at 0.805 and ram at 1.552 Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
using the render 1.074 and 1.552 Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

this is using the boost bios on my card (both switches are set to it from factory)
my card is supposed to come with a factory oc of 830 and a boost of 840

Any idea if the Hynix would be superior for the 7970s as well?

I've been trying to put together a similar guide for the 7970.
