As a matter of fact I have a couple of your's PM's aking me about DC2 series and also in this thread because you don't know anything about DC2 AMD based cards.

DC2 cooler is the best there is for HD79xx series when it comes to "out of the box" cards.

The only air GPU cooler that's more capable is Arctic Cooling Xtreme HD7970 , due it's gigantic size and triple fan design.

So there's no need for a comparision , there are reviews on the net, look them up and you'll se that DC2 beats every cooler on the market except AC Extreme.

Here's a nice review of HD7950n DC2 TOP V2, and there you can see that DC2 beats Twin Frozr III cooler hands down, in performance as well in noise.
Both cards were overclocked to the max with 1.3V and over 1.2GHz core, DC2 max temp was 66C and TF III was 81C,

DC2 cooler speed up to 1500rpm and TFIII to 4200rpm, and that shows how much bigger cooling capacity DC2 cooler has compared to TwinFrozr III.

But you seem to know everything about HD7950/70 even though a couple of weeks ago you knew very little.. lachen.gif

CHEERS..

Very nice, just for comparion to a Vapor-X at same clocks [and I TRIED to match power draw, not voltage] and 25% fanspeed / 1200RPM [minimum]

Note that either my print screen didnt work, or somehow it did a flashback. The result at 5 min was 80C and 108W

Although I wonder: What is your fan RPM at 24%?

Why do you only get 41FPS and I get 49FPS?

My rpm @ 24% is 1600 and max GPU temperature was 62C after 10 minutes.

I also enable Xtreme burn in and Post-FX options in settings for maximum load so that's why my FPS is lower than yours, without these enabled I also get 49FPS in "Burn in benchmark 1929 x 1080 15 min" test.
But temperature is the same with or without enabling these options, 62C max.

So difference between VaporX and DC2 cooler was 18C which is huge!!! eek.gif

But also my fans ran at 400 rpm higher speed so your cooler should perform better at 1600 rpm compared to your previous test.

CHEERS..

Yeah thats a nice cooler on there for sure. I only got this because of a deal, got it for only $240 in October tongue.gif

maybe ill try 1600rpm if I feel like it later, and use the same settings for good measure

What is the exact way you guys tested with Furmark? Ill run the same test with my GPU just to see how it compares.

Actually initially it was me testing Asus HD7950 DC2 TOP V1 at stock settings and stock fan profile in Furmark Burn in benchmark.

Derpinheimer just rerun the same settings on his Vapor X.

So my settings were:

"Burn in benchmark 1920 x 1080 15 min" test (I ran for 10 minutes)
Xtreme burn in ENABLED
Post-FX ENABLED

Fan @ AUTO (hits max 24% which is 1600rpm)

Core clock: 900MHz
Memory clock: 1250MHz
Power Limit = +20%
Core voltage 0.993V (stock)
Memory Voltage: 1.60V (stock)

So if you want to rerun these settings then:
manually set your clocks to 900/1250MHz,
Fan speed @ 1600rpm,
Power Limit = 20% and
core voltage to 1.00V.

Also try to run Furmark for 10 minutes.

I only ran it for 6 minutes because I thought you had ran it for 5. The temp had plateaued anyways. It may have gotten 1 degree hotter at 10 minutes. I manually set my fan speed to 35% which puts it at 1580 rpm. 25C ambient temp in here. My core wasnt running at full speed though, it was bouncing around between 500-700mhz for some reason.

*maybe it was the power limit. Ill re run it.

Yeah, the power limit was still set to stock.

My card's small fans are at a significant disadvantage being locked to such a low RPM. I ran it twice for 5 minutes (temps are plateauing at 4 minutes), once with it locked to 35%, once with it on auto.

The DC2 is certainly king of the stock coolers. The fans are large diameter as well as nearly twice as thick as others. With the blades having so much more surface area they are moving much more air at a set RPM. This explains the discrepancy between these 3 cards when locked to low RPM. It does pay for it by being a triple slot card though.

Are you sure on EXTREME burn in and post FX? because with both of those I only get low 30's in FPS

Edit: Nevermind, its throttling with those settings? lol

Oh dear god I'm an idiot. Sleep mode sets power limit to 0% *FACEPALM*

Okay, here it is:

CHEERS..

Reran this test on my Vapor-X with settings to match yours
900 / 1250
vcore 0.99
fan speed fixed at 1600rpm

After 12 minutes Furmark burnin with Post-FX and Extreme burn in core temp is stabilized at 70C. So there.

It was probably a mistake but i bought the ASUS HD7950-DC2-3GD5-V2 at $350 and after reading this thread, i don't know what the card is really capable of... if someone could give me an idea of the potential of this card i would be very very grateful. The order is processing as i type but maybe i can cancel the order. So i don't have the ability to push it yet but as soon as i do, assuming that i get it i will overclock to the limits and post all information i get. I've learned so much already i am very thankful for the knowledge.
