Help getting Q6600 and 8Gb of DDR2 PC6400 to run at 800Mhz on a P5N32-sli-e

Hi, everyone, I recently made a few upgrades to an old build but have a little problem with memory OC settings.

I originally had 1 stick of gskill 2GB http://www.gskill.com/products.php?index=63 and now added 3 of Super talent 2GB sticks like http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=T800UB2GSA.

First problem I have is that with default settings the memory runs at 677 Mhz. I unlinked the memory config and set it to 3:2 (or 3:4?) and now it runs 711Mhz or something like that.

How can I get to run 800 Mhz? I tried a few tweaks but my windows 7 64bit keeps halting soon after logging in (stable in safe mode).

Here's the motherboard manual http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket775/P5N32-E%20SLI/e2929_P5N32-E_SLI.pdf

thanks!

It can be tricky mixing DIMMs. A few things to try:

- Check the voltages on the DIMMs. It may be that the "older" GSkill one requires a higher voltage to hit 800mhz than the Supertalent sticks do, or vice versa. 1.8v is standard for DDR-2, but I remember some of the older sticks requiring 2.1v to hit rated speeds, especially in a fully loaded board.

- In the bios, leave the memory ratio set to "Auto" and try setting the FSB (QDR) to 800. Must admit my knowledge of nVidia chipset boards is a bit shakey, but none of the ratios linked in the manual seem to suggest that a 1066mhz bus CPU with 800mhz RAM is an option, which is a bit weird ...

- If all else fails, test each stick individually using a Memtest bootdisk - http://www.memtest.org/. Put each stick individually in the first memory slot (in this case, that's the one closest to the CPU) and run Memtest for a good few hours on each stick. This will let you know if there may be a fault on a particular stick.

If I think of anything else I'll update. Good luck!
