Military Ammo Box Mini ITX custom gaming case

Depending upon where you know me from I also go by the username Hubris

So I had an ammunition box sitting next to my C70 and thought "I could fit a itx gaming rig into one of those."
And that is exactly what I am going to do.

The goal is to build an ITX LAN box inside of an ammo box and have minimal modifications to the case itself to provide a close to original look. In other words this is going to be one bad ass rig to take to a LAN party since its so small and looks like its ready for battle

next to a C70

Parts List
  • i7-3370k (thanks for the free cpu amazon!)
  • EVGA GTX 560Ti, the good one.
  • ASUS P8H67-I DELUXE with wifi
  • 8gb 1333mhz so-dimm
  • 700W Cooler Master PSU (may replace with smaller or modular model)
  • 500gb 3.5" HDD and some SSD (haven't decided yet)
  • CM Hyper TX-3 Tower 92mm cpu cooler (i'll try to squeeze in a water loop eventually)

I don't want to cut an I/0 panel hole but I will if I need too, I want to maybe put the i/o ports at the top and use a pci ribbon to allow me to put the gpu wherever.

*RESERVED*

(for build log)

I have the ITX Motherboard now for the build should be starting soon

View the layout of the case here https://app.autocad360.com/main/publish?link=RV1dR1dyb3RXbTBJczRI
In progress:

NOTE: that black foam padding is the exact size of a Mini ITX board, and I will most likely not be cutting a hole for the i/o panel. Instead I will run important ports to the top via extenders. The other option is to rotate the motherboard so the I/o panel is at the top, and use a pcie ribbon cable to allow me to keep the gpu in a good position

Update: 7-28-2013
NEW GPU! Its much smaller and fits easily leaving room for more air flow!!!

you could try one of those GTX670 mini's if you need a powerful small card. would be perfect for this build. Awesome idea btw.

Thats what I had in mind, but my goal is to also leave enough room for something like a 680 or a 7950 or a 570

Ive been looking at potential GPUs to use for this mod. So far the GTX295, 7870, GTX480, GTX560ti and the GTX580 are what Im looking at. For the most part im looking to spend less than 200 on the gpu.
Complete: GTX 560ti purchased

Updated with all the parts and such, just need to create the internal chassis for it. I also need to decide how I want to cool it, Im messing around with a TEC plate and thta could be a potential idea, also a small water loop would be pretty neat aswell
