Part Update!

Got this in today!










Now, to finally show my thorough water-cooling part cleaning and flushing process!


First you will need a few things!

A pair of quick-disconnects with a G1/4 screw side and a compression side for your hose size (Koolance QD3-MG4-BK and QD3-FS13X16-BK):


A large house filter dedicated to removing particles 50 microns in size (Watts WH-LD Premier Whole House Filter System):


A submersible pump with an adjustable flow dial (ActiveAQUA AAPW-550):


1 gallon of distilled water as a minimum (or an amount that will at least submerge your pump):


Hose to route your distilled water (Durelene PVC Tubing 1/2in. ID x 3/4in. OD):


A 5 gallon bucket with optional screw-top attachment and two holes drilled on both sides with rubber grommets:


First take your pump and set it to medium flow:


Set the submersible pump in the 5 gallon bucket:


Attach hose to top of pump through one of the side-wall grommets:


Measure out a decent amount of hose to route to filter from top of pump and cut with hose tool or scissors:


Attach to your filter's inlet port and attach another piece of hose to the outlet:


Attach the compression side of your quick-disconnect to the hose piece coming from the outlet of your filter:


Screw down the G1/4 side of your quick-disconnects to the water-cooling part:


No picture needed, take another piece of hose and leave one end open and connect the last compression side to the other end and stick the open end into the other side-wall grommet of the 5 gallon bucket.

Connect both compression fittings to the screw-down fittings on the water-cooling part :


Make sure the filter is set to "Filter" and pour the 1 gallon of distilled water into the 5 gallon bucket:


Turn on the pump and check your fittings to make sure there is nothing leaking:


The distilled water will flow through the pump's filter then through the house filter then into your part and back into the bucket and then repeats:


You can now let it run for 30 minutes or more to make sure it is super clean and go browse the net while it cleans instead of shaking with hot water forever.
How did I miss all this? This is Purely amazing! All the work you have been doing is pretty Clean. see what I did there? Anways this by far is pretty interesting and also pretty brilliant. I would have never thought about using a fish pump from an aquarium to flush out a system. Neither have I thought of using a housefilter to get all the grit from a cooling sytesms out this is more effective way to go about it.

One more thing that motherboard is pretty snazzy I really like the look of it. The tool that came with it looks like something I would use in the autoshop.

Several Questions:
What are quick disconnects good for? I understand there used for being able to disonnect peices from lets say a motherboard without spilling but what is their purpose other than that?

Can you add chemicals to help fasten or clean the process such as bleach or any type of cleaning product or would it erode the tubing and everything else?

Edit: Ok it's not a fish pump from an a aquarium but it's still pretty ingenous.

1.) They are completely utilitarian, as in they make your loop modular. This makes it easy to drop in and pull parts obviously, while also saving you a ton of time. This prevents you from having to drain the loop EVERY single time you need to remove or clean a part. They make the biannual cleanings a dream. They also make it very easy to drain your loop safely if you need to.

2.) If you look back in my earlier posts I posted a picture of this:



These are the only neccessary items needed to keep your loop clean during operational use. Now it is possible to use vinegar lightly to get rid of any gunk, but you should not have any problems if you take your loop seriously. Now by taking it seriously I mean by not using any additives like dyes or any coolant other than distilled water. I am basically saying if you cut out the "bull****" you won't have to worry much at all about grime in your loop. Proper monitoring, not mixing metals between waterblocks, distilled water, Durelene tubing, silver kill coils, Petra Nuke-PHN Biocide, a loop flush and refill every six months, tube replacement every few years (dependent on your tubing), and a yearly waterblock cleaning will keep your loop running like new.


Sounds like a lot, but if you set yourself up for success early by designing a proper loop then you will have no problems. It is the same as dusting your computer every few months and replacing thermal grease every few years (dependent on your temps). You should never use bleach on any part of your loop, or mix metals like having an aluminum block and a copper block. Just make sure to avoid galvanic corrosion, which isn't too rampant even though people kind of blow it out of proportion.

Where would I be able to find the PH Nuke? So you don't need to use bleach or any cleaning product when you're doing the flushing.

Also what was the talk of why the KQD's are only good for resevoir filling or draining?

1.) Google it. Seriously, you can find it anywhere. No, but if you do need to use anything a bit more powerful on the blocks, use vinegar.

2.) They are not "only" just good for that, I don't know where you saw that. Anyway, just think of how they work, they hold back the water in your loop, preventing you from having to refill and rebleed the loop every time you need to do maintenance.

P.S: It seems you are strictly for the use of distilled water and added biocide and kill coils. What do you think about Mayhems concentrates? I have yet to see someone complaining about them gunking up their loop. Thoughts?

I am strict about distilled because I want a no-nonsense system. The less things in your system the less you have to worry about. If you want color and wouldn't mind added maintenance then yea Mayhem seems to have decent dyes. I have done a few extravagant builds for friends with all types of dyes (Feser One, Koolance UV, etc.) and they end up not maintaining them properly. I know what that road has down it and I like the simplicity of straight distilled. I need a strong system that is reliable. I have the NZXT HUE and Koolance 3mm LEDs for color. thumb.gif I'll have an update soon.wink.gif
