Random Crashing - Stumped - Page 2

Thread Starter
I can't pinpoint this "event" to the crashing, but my event viewer is showing:
Level: Error, Source: atapi, Event ID: 11
"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort3."

I looked at the Microsoft help, but the parrots over there are constantly saying "Go to device manager and find the device", without going into further detail. I'm clicking away in device manager and am only able to find 2 devices in the controller, but I don't know what IdePort they are. I have only 2 devices hooked up anyway.

According to my motherboard manual they are hooked up on "SATA2 Connectors (SATA2_2_3, Black)" My Main HDD being on SATA2_3, and my storage on SATA2_2. What confuses me though is the designation. According to the support, the ide port counting starts at 0... so including ALL my ports, my HDD is on IdePort5. My backup is on IdePort4. My optical drive was on IdePort3 but it is no longer hooked up. I only hook it up for installing the OS.

Starting from my SATA 2 ports however, my HDD is on IdePort2 if we're counting the same sequence. Or maybe I'm confusing myself.

Here are 2 screenshots from HD Tune. The first being my primary HDD, the second being my backup/storage drive.

just an idea

try underclocking your gcard. like 10%. its possible it could be the source of the crash. also if your running vcard fans manually, switch to auto, if theyre on auto, switch to manual and set them relatively high (high enough to prevent overheating @load) ive seen strange behaviours from the fans settings affecting stability of the cards.

if I understand from your post it seems to crash randomly and not only when certain stuff is open, or when your gaming, so its not likely the above will help. but it wont hurt.

edit * oh and the sound thing makes me think its cpu/memory crashing

did u try a bigger psu?

try different ram settings, single stick, single channel

try overclocking, bumping voltages

you probably already thought of these but I say anyways. basically you just have to change things until the problem goes away or gets worse.
