I'm not sure you're understanding things.

Data isn't measured in "minutes", it's measure in "bytes".

Your talk time, is measured in "minutes"

From what I'm trying to piece together from your post:

"How do I use my normal data instead of my hotspot data, even though I'm tethering?"

I don't think there is a way to get around this, as the carriers have way of monitoring your data usage and can count it against you.

If your question is:

"How do I use my talk time minutes as data?"

Then this is impossible, because minutes are not data.

My question is - how do you have two separate categories for Data?

When I had the Hotspot, that was it. 5GB-limit of full-speed internet because I enabled the Hotspot on my plan. It wasn't just 5GB of Hotspot data, it was data. Period.
