[Digital Trends] Jetsetter: How used games work on Xbox One according to UK retailers - Page 8

Recently passed laws in the EU will force Steam to facilitate the Xfer of licenses between owners, second hand.

Once you have made your initial sales, and licenses are floating out there in the free market users are legally free to sell their licenses to consumers. This doesn't hurt steam, Because the licenses have to come from steam first. This is sales, Not piracy.

The console market exists because it is built on the concept of buying the console (once), and then buying any accessory, game, etc for it (once) and it "just works". If you don't have internet, it still works. If you have friends over, it still works. If you found some CD laying under the refrigerator in a new house you just moved into, it will work. No effort required. Plop in the CD, and play. No hidden fees, no need up upgrade hardware, no need to worry if your games will be compatible or if your system is powerful enough for it to be enjoyable, etc.

All the recent MS hate is because every single thing they have announced about the upcoming Xbox spits in the face of the concept of consoles. Consoles have never been the best or most robust platform for gaming, that title belongs to the gaming PC. Consoles are all about being cheaper and easier. If MS gets their way, consoles will be none of those things.

Personally, I don't really care. Actually, I kind of like the idea - it will likely push more developers back to PC. That said, there are a lot of people who either don't want to or can't simply move on to PC gaming. They have every right to be upset.

So with this in mind, can we all please stop bashing people who don't enjoy getting shafted? Kthx

PS - Developers have it easier than they ever hand in the past. It is incredibly easy and cheap to independently publish and distribute a game (or any other media) to the masses compared to any other point in history. We have more and easier development tools than ever before. There are huge libraries of easily accessible stock assets (images, sounds, shaders, etc), many of which are even free. Furthermore gaming is becoming more and more mainstream, leading to a ever-growing population of consumers to sell your games to, which already far exceeds any previous time in history. Big publishers might be willing to throw away $200 million on a single title, but that doesn't make their games any better than something made in one's spare time in their basement. Just take a look at SWTOR vs Minecraft.

In short, developers don't have it so tough, so stop using that as an excuse. Make a good game, put it out there, and people will buy it. Pissing off your own consumers is not the right way to do business.

The bottom line about Microsoft hate is this: They aren't giving consumers what they want, And expect consumers to buy it anyway. It's a slap in our faces.

1. Buy this $400 Console.
2. Buy games at full retail.
3. One day I'll stop supporting the Product and it will stop working Because the servers won't authenticate every 24 hours anymore. I will turn the servers off! You aren't buying this console! You are renting it!
4. My Games Will Drop In Price slower Than ever!!! (The absence of used games will destroy any incentive to lower prices of new games as they age.)
5. This console has only slightly better graphics than 360.
6. It is unanimously agreed, This new console is inferior to PS4. The hardware specs just don't stack up.

Thought you were saying that the second hand buyer should get a cheaper price because he had to wait longer to play the game.

that is a contributory factor. Its not a matter that waiting makes him deserving of a cheaper price... It's just how markets work. It's a natural occurrence in markets.

No one deserves anything they don't agree upon with the seller.

Hardware specs =/= inferiority. Specs do not equate into better experiences. That's based on the OS and developer's efforts in maximizing the most out of the console. You can put a TItan in the console but that won't fix buggy games

Apples and oranges sir. I want premium hardware for my $$$. It is the dev's job to maximize my experience on any hardware I buy, And I expect them to work hard to earn my software $$$. Microsoft is not going to sell me an underpowered console with the excuse that it's easier for devs to work with. I don't care about what devs want.

As it is, the hardware is so similar that superior PS4 hardware should mean superior performance. We're not talking about Cell architecture here. Both consoles use a simple AMD APU.

Thing is didn't sony say it was up to the 3rd parties if they wanted some sort of drm, seems like they'll see themselves making some change off used games on xbox and then push it themselves on ps4. This is what they've been crying over the past 3 or so years with the online pass garbage, push it on the microsony oligopoly and then you can force people to buy new or buy used and still rake in money.
