A better cooler simply removes the heat from your CPU and graphics cards in a more effective matter. That heat doesn't disappear, it get's vented into the surroundings, i.e. your room.

This!

Also, if you decide to upgrade to a single card, to reduce heat. Obviously you should wait for the 7 series to fully launch. Even if you still decide to get a 670, because prices will most likely drop a bit for the 6 series. Ever thought of selling your cards for a small amount and just getting a used 670? Especially now the 7 series is here, people will be upgrading and selling their older 6 series.

Well I kinda figured if I kept my card cooler it wouldn't exhaust as hot of air, because it's obv cooler, and my room wouldn't get as hot so the incoming air wouldn't be as hot to raise the temps as much. I'm probably wrong I got the logic in my head late at night and it's kinda sticking but yea.

I had considered a used card but wasn't sure about it. I could prolly get a used 670-680 a bit cheaper. Or maybe even the 7 series would be near the same price as current 670 but perform better, possibly who knows. I wonder how long till the 7 series fully releases and prices on 6 series reflect that.

I've never sold anything but I also considered selling my gpus yes, have to do some looking on what I can even get outta them, prolly not much.

I will still probably change my cpu cooler I just don't like the gigantic one I have. I wonder if I do get a 680 or a 7 series card if I will be bottlenecked elsewhere?

How do you think a cooler makes a card colder? It absorbs the heat it generates faster and then vents it out through the fans into your room. When you put air conditioning on your house, it makes your room colder by making the OUTSIDE hotter. Your AC is transferring heat outside. Your refrigerator transfers heat into your kitchen. By the law of conservation of energy in nature, energy can not be destroyed. Heat is one of those energies. Almost all the power going into a PC is dumped into your room as heat, so if you have a 500W computer, it is the same as a fancy 500W space heater.

If you want your room to be colder there are a few things you can do:
  • Underclock your card so that it uses less power and therefore generates less heat.
  • Get a more efficient power supply so that electricity is not wasted directly into more heat. If your power draw is 500 and your power supply is 75% efficient and a hypothetically better power supply is 87% efficient, that is a difference of 500W*.87 - 500W*.75 = 60W of more heat. So that 60W is being pulled in addition to the 500W so at the wall it's drawing 560W.
  • Replace existing hardware with faster/slower hardware that runs at a lower temperature.
  • Turn off your comptuer.
