PC Crashes to Desktop randomly.

Thread Starter
I keep getting these random crashes while I play games, this is a new build same rig I have listed in my signature. However, I had the same issue with my last rig before, and I don't know what it is exactly. Below are my event logs for BF3 and ME3, I have had crashes with Dota 2 and Metro: Last Light as well and the logs identical to these with the locations and executables listed being the only difference. Crashes happen at random sometime after 20 mins or 45 up to a couple of hours.

The exact same problem on 2 separate builds? That is a little crazy. Obvious question but did you reuse any parts or was this a completely new build from the ground up? The odds that 2 completely different builds would have the same software related problem like this.

I used 2 of the same RAM sticks, but I ran a memtest and no issues were found. After that I used a couple of fans from my last rig, and my Blu-Ray/DVD-RW combo drive installed. My NZXT fan controller from my last rig is mounted, but I haven't installed it.

Its gotta be the RAM even though it passes Memtest. The fan and fan controllers wouldn't have anything to do with a software error like youre getting. If you used the RAM in both builds and both builds have the exact same errors popping up, then its gotta be them. TIme to grab a fresh set. Even if its not the culprit, theyre only $35 for a pair of 2 gig sticks so you wont be out much and a spare set is always nice to have around but my money is on the RAM being the problem.

Maybe network might be causing issues.
my old router caused all network problems especially while playing online games on both of my computers

Whenever my pc would crash to the desktop it was a result of overclocking my GPU. I found this out as I dialed the settings down a bit and that resolved the issue. If its not blue screening with " memory management " I dont know if I would say its a ram issue but they are cheap enough for you to give it a shot. Is your system adequately powered? I would remove everything from the pc that is not necessary besides the GPU and start trying to replicate/ isolate the issue.

Are you monitoring cpu & gpu temps?

Yeah I agree the symptoms don't generally sound like a RAM problem but since he's had the exact same problem with 2 separate builds but used the same RAM in each, its gotta be that.......right? headscratch.gif

Still the possibility of high gpu temps and/or he could be overclocking it too much. I've seen computers in the past that would have random ram issues when the motherboard actually had bulging capacitors but since he doesn't have blue screens I highly doubt its capacitors. It also looks like he has 2 cards. I would try playing with each card individually and see if the issue happens again.

Ah, yeah good point. Didn't think of that. Yank out a stick and run on 2GB for a while and see what happens. If it crashes again, swap sticks. If it crashes again then its probably not the RAM cause the odds of both sticks being bad are pretty high. If it doesn't crash, well then youll know the culprit.

Thanks for the responses!! I guess I lucked out because I happen to have two spare 2 GB sticks still in the box brand new from a friend. I will test them manually when I get the chance and check in!
