Question about the Apogee Drive II

So the general rule of thumb is to keep the res right before the pump to ensure the pump never runs the risk of going dry but with the Apogee Drive II and having the pump on top of the CPU doesnt that make it rather hard in most cases to make sure the res is above it?

The trick is to hold the reservoir above the AD2 while filling and bleeding, and then mount it when the loop is full. Dunno which res you have, but my EK X3 has a clip which you can loosen and pick the res up and move it around. Sometimes it helps to put the case on its side, and make the tubes to the res a bit longer to allow movement.

I would recommend avoiding the Apogee Drive II. I use it right now, and kind of regret getting it. It's results are meh, and it's a hassle to bleed. It's also REALLY hard to properly decouple the motor, so it's MCP35x can get pretty loud at high RPMs. I would suggest the XSPC Raystorm, it's one of the best blocks out there, and is only $50 or so.

Most of the time an Apogee Drive 2 is used in an ITX rig where there is no room for a seperate pump. I have one in my HTPC and think it is great for most part. Bleeding wasn't that bad, I just wiggled the case back and force a few times. You absolutely need a way to slow the pump though. I run mine @ 1500 rpm and it extremely quiet.

You said this a few days ago as well. Sure it's loud over 50% PWM, but you don't need it running at high rpms. At 30% or 40% it's quiet and hardly any decrease in performance. What are you running that needs such high head pressure?
