Honestly, it's a gimmick...It won't be used majorly even now I think, there's a lot of people who won't buy a game if they have to do that as it's not what they're looking for. I don't want to wave my arms around and shout at the TV when I play games.

Thats Funny because the Wii was just that, a gaming console you fling your arms around to play physical games with.

You might not want it, but for someone looking to get a console for their kids it is ether get the Wii or Xbox. Kinect is already doing great in that regards.

Plus trying to pause a movie without a remote or Kinect would require you to turn the controller on then back off after your done. On the 360 turning off the controller is as easy as pulling the battery out a little, on the ps3 it is a different story. Time I don't like wasting and is the reason I got a remote for my things. Not needing a remote would be a plus for some people, even if not everyone will be using it.

there is no doubt that in its distilled essence the kinect can provide a certain demographic with a better game experience, just like the wii. but there should be a choice to not use it and leave it in the box. Why cant this happen? as said, nobody answered this yet.

also its lame to use a high tech sensor like the kinect just to pause a movie with your arm, I can do that now on my smart tv by shouting 'pause' so again nothing new here.

also that night vision mode = spooky ph34r-smiley.gif

because someone actually use it isn't an excuse to make it mandatory even if it's not being used.
they should have put an off switch, or an active camera lense cover, but no they don't want to do that because that will prevent them from snooping.

they patented this idea for a reason. what makes you think that they will not going to use this patented idea? maybe not now, but they are paving the way, one step at a time.

You can still pause by saying "xbox pause" that won't change.

And yes while you should be able to leave it in the box if you please, MS has done a lot of dedicating to it. The OS uses it for User logins to automatically connect you to your own personal account after you pick the controller up. They use it for controller motions like the PS4 does with its controller and that weird light thing on top when used with the camera. Among other things. Simply not having it means the system wouldn't be as automated as MS was intending. While you can still get by perfectly fine without, It seems MS is trying to push Kinect as more of a native feature that is always there.

And as time goes by and with the use of the cloud I would bet sometime in the future your xbox might even talk back.

Plus 99% of users wouldn't even disconnect the kinect sensor anyways. Same with go with the PS4, people will see it in the box and hook it up. A few nerds complaining about it on the internet isn't going to change that. While having the choice would be better, Most will simply have it connected. Catering to the few paranoid people that covers up every web cam they own and doesn't use facebook or other social sites is probably not in MS focus right now.

Maybe they are really just trying to give us the "best user experience"??? confusedsmiley.png People please think about this in a business aspect... Do you think the people at that very first board meeting about the Xbox One were interesting in really trying to get a device out there to snoop? Do you really think they are BAD people out to get us? They want to see what we watch? They want to see our kids and family's play? They want to track our every move? NO! They want to make money. They want to find that current appeal to most consumers so they can get the most sales. That's what a business is about!!!!! Did any of you forget that or did all these movies about hackers, and the government try to get us over take your brains? REALLY just think about this. The rumor about charging more for a movie with more people in the room... that is so stupid. Think about this logically.. What is the #1 movie service on Xbox Live?? NETFLIX!!! Netflix is another company that offers Microsoft their service. They get their cut and then they give the rest to Microsoft of the totals earnings, if you think this would happen.. Netflix would have to change their whole policy requiring every device that has netflix on it to have the technology that allows that counting of people.. which is not possible.. When the technology gets there.. I DOUBT that would happen, people would not pay their monthly fees and find another service. Okay this was a big rant but I want ALL of you to read this and remember... this is all a BUSINESS. and YOU don't have to buy it if you don't like it. So stop complaining.

PS. If some of you are going to generalize by my previous statement that I am a Microsoft fanboy and I am going to buy the Xbox One.. you are wrong. They didnt lose a sale for an advancement in technology. They lost a sale because I am not in their appeal catagory. I may buy a PS4 because they seem to appeal to a different group of gamers or I may just say screw it and stay with my badass PC. Thanks! smile.gif

And how much of the cost of the XBOne did the Kinect amount for? Because that's just plain wasted cash.

Indeed it is..And how many people buy games for it regularly? Everyone I know with one has one that they use rarely and less often than a PS3 or 360, the people who aren't gamers usually haven't touched theirs in a while or only use it for Wii Fit anyway...And those aren't the customers that MS would want, especially if they're dedicated 3x virtual XBOnes to every physical one on top of making a loss on hardware. There's many reasons it sold like hotcakes, and MS seems to have grasped very few of them.

Kinect is doing fairly well for kids but is dead in the water in every other market...The amount of games that require Kinect is dropping as far as I can tell and there's absolutely zero point in owning one. I can say that as someone who does own one and did want one as the tech looked interesting.

At least my remote or controller won't think the TV show is giving commands. Yes, that probably can be fixed by calibration...but how many of MS' new target audience are going to know that? Or do that? I don't need to calibrate my remote, either. With rechargable batteries, just plug the damn thing in if it's that much of a concern. My PS3 controllers are nearly always plugged in when off and near fully charged anyway...
