fixed doh.gif sorry.......I know what he is saying, but the issue is that this thing will invade your home privacy which is WAY different than public privacy......I know your phone has a camera, and I know it can track your location......but it can not track your moves, it does not know what you're physically doing, and it does not know what you look like

Meh people argue to much over this let the IDIOTS buy it and then we can laugh at them when our PS4/PC's smash them this GEN.

Microsoft: "We Aren't Using Kinect To Snoop."

But we cannot guarantee that our reps will not get the itch to hack into your FAILBOX ONE and take a peek of your wife while she gets dressed.

For this issue we might sell a Kinect "shutter" that can be purchased right from your console for a few extra dollars lachen.gif
post #125 of 289
While they mentioned they will not use it to Snoop, they absolutely have no control of government agencies whose job it is to snoop...as well they should. I have no dog in this fight. I'm not buying one. however as an observer...

Microsoft looking for extra profits:?
XBox statistics on how many people watch Netfix in front of any Xbox. - For Sale. no video just stats.
How many times a user turns the console on. - captured.
How often does user eat in front of the console. - captured.
Demographics - Male, female, short, tall, large, small, hairstyle, smoker...

They don't have to sell a video of you, just your habits.

Now the part about hackers... This thing is on the Net, and we know how many people leave their Wifi unsecure. Lots. Add in rogue nations, and a software giant that is known for having to patch their systems thousands of times because by it's very design it's INSECURE. Fact. China must be licking their chops. ok /tinfoil biggrin.gif

Could they have done the same a
without the need to be connected? Without the camera always being on with the system? Without all the used game issues? We know little about the used games problem and MS being quite about it doesn't help.

The idea they had is fine. All this extra stuff wasn't needed. That is what is making us angry. All the unneeded requirements. It seems like with the Internet we continue to lose more freedoms as the years go on. So there might be a day when this is common place. Or maybe, just maybe, people will start to fighting back with their wallets. Maybe the Xbox One will be just enough to push us pass that line. If not, I really don't know where the majority of us are drawing their lines on when it has gone too far.

Being a bit older and more cynical than most I have seen the corporate sneaks and smarms hungry to fill their loveless lives. The power hungry young guns hateful of other people who walk the isles of big corporate business. The socially inept, Oedipus complexed living with mom back room I.T staff. We trust these people with our data, they have foibles just like you and I

MS tech runts or Hackers, having a quick bit of fun with their power..

" huh, huh, .. check this out man.. Give me a xboxone IP.. Huh.. connecting to 172.168.45.102: port 1863 .."

"Woa.. check out this chick i was watching the other day for hours, she'd totally get it" ,

"lets do a look up and find out all the information we have on her and take some pics and videos for laters",

"yea, but do it silently i don't want to get fired over this"

---- "they will never know"

Creepy as a Creepy thing in Creep town? = Yes
Extreme? = Yes of course but your opening up a whole new realm of surveillance possibilities in the home
Possible? = Sadly Yes

Of course, its extreme WHO in their right mind, with that power would EVER breach the trust of 50 million xboxone users in order to *** to your kid sister in her panties? Nobody has ever done anything wrong in regards to information hacking recently have they rolleyes.gif MS haven't had security breaches before too so its perfectly safe and fine rolleyes.gif

Again, extreme and i dont think google glasses are a nice idea either unless controlled properly. The big corps are moving in on your and you vote with your wallet and help the uninformed friends of yours decided by providing this information as not many really understand the technology.

All they have to do, is give you the option to unplug it. that is all

My little brother worked for a surveillance team for a major store. He watched all kinds of normal people doing normal things. The most boring job to ever come into existence. Watching paint dry is more entertaining.
It is possible to obtain those statistics, but much of that is already captured. Netflix knows when a show is on and how long. XBox knows when it is turned on, how long, how much time accessing content.
My point is that except for eat in front of the Kinnect all of that data is already captured. All the legal demands are met and the technology to interpret that data is already implemented.
Yes they could gather data, but since that data is already available M$ doesn't need to risk their product by aggressively monitoring. Personally I think if they did it would kill their Brand entirely. Germany alone would ban it, it would be very hard to sell in the EU in general due to privacy demands. It would be easier to allow the One to be a gateway to all the applications that already gather data.

I'm going to have to say that if the web is flooded with viruses from users that have nothing else good to do then having the ability to hack into someones console for the sole purpose of snooping is going to be on their priority list. Especially if it gets to the point that anyone can do it.
