Suure Microsoft....So what is the reason why the Kinect must be online for the new Xbox to function again?

The many features they've been advertising and even talk about in the OP. tongue.gif There's a lot of functionality based around the kinect such as basic voice commands, identifying and automatically logging a user in, and stuff like that. Sure, not much of it is all that necessary, but it's Microsoft's choice to make it an integral part of the system.

I personally think Microsoft is smart enough not to use the Kinect in such an invasive manner. If they were caught snooping or mishandling personal information without there being something in the EULA about it, they would have quite the lawsuit on their hands.

ohh yea those 30 page EULA's you have to scroll through on every update ( PS has them too) expecting the average punter to have a law degree

Are you sure? 'Cause it looks to me like you're preparing for just that.

Unfortunately only time will tell. I just hope there's enough backlash to make Microsoft do a 180 on a lot of these recent policy changes and announcements. Otherwise I don't foresee a glorious future for the XBOne.

One step will lead to another, eventually they will be "spying" on us.
Knowing they're in contract with Obscure Technologies, you can bet they are going to snoop. Article here http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2012/04/game-console-hack/

I'm not so much worried about MS spying as I am the US Govt. Does anybody think they could possibly resist that big of a temptation to use (for whatever the explanation) the possible biggest intelligence gathering tool of all time? Is Microsoft even going to think about standing up to them and say no? I seriously doubt it.
