[V2] Microsoft: "We Aren't Using Kinect To Snoop." - Page 10

I hate that you can't argue a point on this site without being called a fanboy. Seriously, where in my post do I say that I'm in favor of anything that Microsoft is doing? The patent is stupid and so is the kinect requirement and I'm not going to be buying the Xbox One. I'm just not paranoid to the point where I think Microsoft is going to use the Kinect for anything that malicious.

I don't see the big deal with Kinnect though, compared to Google Glasses a fixed webcam is hardly a threat to privacy.

What information would the government get by accessing your Kinect? It's a very unreliable source of information. Getting access to phone logs and listening in on calls is much different than hoping for a small chance of you doing something very illegal in front of your Kinect.

Xbox One is a scam that says you don't own your 60 dollar game. They say you can't give your game away that you paid 60 bucks for or allow for one of your friends or relatives to borrow your video game. Other powerful Rumors suggest you need an internet connection to play certain single player games.

My understanding of this is that we can't turn it off. This does cause a privacy concern and for good reason. But for me, that isn't my only concern. I hate playing through a good game using my nicely designed buttons only to find myself assaulted by having to move my body, or controller in a certain way to make a move.

I see nothing wrong with motion games. I love KZ3 with the move. What I don't like is the cross. I feel either a game should stick with the buttons or be primary about motion so I know up front what I'm getting into when I sit down to enjoy a game.

Uncharted( needing to find a light source while I'm enjoying my game in the dark was a simple of something that only annoyed me). Just give me the option of turning it off. I can think of a few games that asked me first if I wished to use the motion controls.

So should on physical copies be given the ability to be sold second hand? What if I buy a digital dopy of Halo through Xbox Live marketplace. Shouldn't I be granted the same rights to sell my Halo game? How would I do it? Who's responsible for facilitating in making that possible?

A lot of us have a problem with that. That is why some of us only buy physical game copies. Take that away and we would lose are rights to resell either way we go. It is like you said, nothing any different than buying a game from XLM or PSN or even steam. This is why I refuse to buy digital games, or media of any sort that isn't deeply discounted.

I still wouldn't feel safe... You might be able to trust Microsoft but can you trust their employees?
Don't think I'm going to just take their word for it... They could say it but not mean it...

LOL I guess there's no such thing as privacy anymore? phones,ISP's wifi, clouds, webcams, & now games consoles? TV's will be next?

the only way to be private I guess is don't talk lol & pass post it notes while sat next to each other & burn them afterwards?

its crazy how laid back people are about these things really. if your really that bothered though im sure you could block off the camera with a flip cover taped to it , open it up & add a switch to the mic?

leaving the controller board thinking its working & connected. but no audio/video actually working!

problem solved?

Some people are way too excited about this. In all the wrong ways.

I already have a way to control my Xbox, it's called the controller and it tends to work better...Especially since arms get sore when you're going through interfaces with all of the pauses, etc that are there to ensure you actually want to select something and it hasn't lost my hand.

Honestly, it's a gimmick...It won't be used majorly even now I think, there's a lot of people who won't buy a game if they have to do that as it's not what they're looking for. I don't want to wave my arms around and shout at the TV when I play games, I want to sit down with a beer in one hand and a controller in the other. (Unless I'm at my PC, in which case beer is on desk and hands are on keyboard and mouse.)

Sure, not much of it is all that necessary, but it's Microsoft's choice to make it an integral part of the system.

I personally think Microsoft is smart enough not to use the Kinect in such an invasive manner. If they were caught snooping or mishandling personal information without there being something in the EULA about it, they would have quite the lawsuit on their hands.

That's all optional, let me have it as an option...None of that I'm going to really use. I have one user on my 360 (My account, my gf, etc just use it if they're playing my 360 with my games) and the voice commands are still more annoying to use than the controller is. None of it is necessary.

Why should we think the Kinect will be any more intrusive?

I can still use a lot of phone features without it being connected to any network in any way whatsoever.
