How are these OC temps in 88F/31C ambient

Happy Memorial Day

I have an i5 3570k overclocked to 4.2JiggaHertz via automatic OC through MSI OC Gene (MSI GD65 Z77A MoBo, just push a button and viola)

Voltage might be a bit excessive at 1.31v but I don't have the patience to manually OC and run prime for hours while finding the perfect match of Clock vs Voltage. MSi OC Gene pretty much guarantees stability, at least in my situation smile.gif

Anywho, with ambient temps of 88F=31C, the chip idles around 39-42C.

Cooling via Corsair H60 New Edition

I would just like to know if these temps are in good standing given the ambient and please don't burn me for not overclocking the traditional way! smile.gif

Looks decent for your set-up. What are max temps?

At 4.2 JiggaHertz that's excellent.

All seriousness aside, you're better off looking at your temperature under load. It's more important, and due to the way the temperature sensors are calibrated, a lot more accurate. Fire up a stress test program and leave it running for a while. Doesn't have to be long, 10 minutes is fine to get an idea of what your maximum temperatures are like since you normally won't be putting this much load on the chip anyway.

Highest I've seen was around 55-58, playing games, which is probably the only stress my PC goes through.

edit: Vonnis, makes sense, I'll see if I can make my pc cry and see what temps are like smile.gif

For 4.2Ghz I think 1.31v is a little high, I'm not knowledgeable about the voltage differences between SB and IB. But I was running my 2500k at 4.5ghz @ 1.284v. But your temps are good considering your high ambient tem. Your AC broken lol?

I am running 4.3GHz with offset set to the lowest positive setting (+.05) and LLC set to regular (OFF). It nets a voltage of 1.120v with prime95 running.

From everything I have seen those auto OCing things are great to get a base OC but they always overshoot the voltage to ensure stability.

Try just resetting everything and then setting your multi to 42x and see if you are stable.

If you are happy with your current results and don't care about the voltage then just leave it but there are some games that can get the CPU temps fairly high so I would def check your temp under load on prime95.

Far Cry 3 def spikes the temps on my CPU as well as Crysis 3 and Hitman. I know because every once in a while the fans spool up which meant it hit 75c on the motherboard cpu sensor which unfortunately sets the PWM to 100% (which does nothing since I have nearly 2 liters of water in my rig)

Anyways those temps are def fine but if you want to you can get them lower.

Also those voltages are not dangerous or anything either but at 1.296v I am getting up to 4.75GHz... everyones chip is different but I have installed a lot of 2500k and 3570ks and most will take very little to get to 4.0-4.3GHz

@ Xtreme, I don't like having the AC on, the noise bothers me tongue.gif

@Givmedew I tried manually overclocking to 4.2 and got an almost infinite boot loop of blue screens (bsod, pc auto reboot, bsod, pc auto reboot..ect)

I also tried getting 4.3Jiggs on the same 1.31v that my mobo gives me automatically, and Bsod. That's why I gave up smile.gif But as long as my temps are fine as you guys say smile.gif

repped smile.gif
