Shipping and tax could raise the cost, so I left a bit of headroom. Just one option I threw together

Here you go - I managed to squeeze a bunch of extra's in there for you, and then there's all the savings to take note of, either through promo-codes to be entered on purchase, or through mail-in-rebates. Your total cost at purchase is under $1260.

This is pretty awesome value frankly, and will comfortably handle any game currently out or released in the next year or two. You could potentially make an argument for changing the GPU's, though these will crush games currently - SLI is working stably, they're externally exhausting so they'll run cool, and they're pretty damned good value. For a little bit extra, you can get 7870's (potentialy 7870 XT's which would be killer once overclocked), though you might need a larger PSU if you did.

This should give you the most consistent high-end experience for the price, even without overclocking, and with overclocking definitely will.

You'll not the high-end SSD and 1TB HDD for O/S and game-installs respectively. And I managed to get 2133mhz CL9 RAM and an AIO liquid cooler for the CPU in there. The only other thing I would suggest is case fans, but that's up to you in the end.

PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/10wBs

CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.99)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Seidon 120M Liquid CPU Cooler ($34.99)
Motherboard: ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($129.98)
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($79.98)
Storage: Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($93.99)
Storage: Western Digital RE4 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($94.98)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($189.99)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($189.99)
Case: NZXT Tempest 410 ATX Mid Tower Case ($39.99)
Power Supply: Rosewill Capstone 650W 80 PLUS Gold Certified ATX12V ($64.00)

It would help if you provide your monitor size and resolution (also 60hz or 120hz?).

If you are running a smaller 60hz monitor, you could easily get away with a single moderately powerful cpu (GTX670 for example).

Guys correct me if I am wrong, but the 3820 can only be overclocked by increasing BLCK (which I believe tops out at about 107 or 108 max). A six core cpu is nice enough but for gaming a quad core K series processor would make a lot more sense (and be quite a bit cheaper). It would also run substantially cooler and require a much less aggressive cooling system.
