500~ Rig

Yo whats up everyone on Overclock.net, looking for a critique on this build. I have been out of the PC Gaming and Hardware market, so I don't know exactly the best price/performance parts right now, but I think I have a general idea of what they are. No monitor is needed. This isn't for me, so I don't need to overclock. The only future consideration is 4 RAM slots. Only need the guts too. Thanks in advance for the help.

It looks like there is no 150~ intel quad core. So for this budget unless I can downgrade the video card, I would have to get a dual core. I like to spend more on the GPU than CPU. Will consider AMD.

PSU - 29.99 - Rosewill 400w

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182074

CPU and Mobo Combo - 194.99 - Intel Core i3-2100 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1306584

Hard Drive - 67.99 WD 1 TB Blue

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822236339

RAM *Its free for the CPU/Mobo combo - 0.00

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148661

GPU - 184.99 - Sapphire Radeon 7850

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202004

Roughly 550 after taxes. Looks like I have everything (or so I think).

PSU Wattage is within range. Only question is the quality of Rosewill. But considering the low die sizes, power consumption shouldnt be a problem.

Comments? Suggestions? Flaming? XD

Oh wow, newegg.ca is getting actual promotions, let me scout around the site and see what I can find, edit this post in about 20 minutes.

*edit*
I can't find anywhere to improve, you did a good job on this build, especially for using newegg.ca. Going to check NCIX.ca now.

*edit*
I'm unsure if this item offers free S&H, but it's worth a check.

$8 shipping, or $10 for next day delivery, and still cheaper then the original GPU choice.

Greetings fellow Canadian! Give me about 5 Minutes and I will put something together for you.

*EDIT* Alright brother I put this together for you

http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/10LQF

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($93.50 @ Vuugo)
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($101.50 @ Vuugo)
Memory: Corsair XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($49.99 @ Canada Computers)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($64.99 @ Canada Computers)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 2GB Video Card (Purchased For $184.99)
Power Supply: Rosewill Stallion 400W ATX12V Power Supply (Purchased For $29.99)
Total: $524.96

This CPU will be alot faster then the dual-core i3 you were going to get. That motherboard with it will also be good for down the road when you buy a CPU cooler and overclock. I wish I could have gotten a nicer PSU in, but its still better then what you could have gotten for that price (Apivia, Diablotek *shivers*, etc).

That pcpartspicker link may have the taxes included, but the price here is the actual price without tax.

That i3 3100 will cry and blow up with a 8350 at least get a quad core I say i5, 965 4350 at a minimum to not bottleneck your graphics card and being on a budget a 500$ amd build will blow the Intel one straight out of the water. Anyway I would take the suggestion above

The i3 2100 Is a VERY capable Cpu, equiv to a Q9550 Quad core.

I would recommend that you go with the i3, Also makes it easier to upgrade to an i5-i7 down the track whereas with the AMD setup you will be 'limited' by what they have to offer.
Do you need 1tb of storage?

the 1155 socket is dead and it won't even pump out as good as a quad core face it i3s just don't cut it any more games are now using 4 cores plus if he goes amd he can upgrade to steamroller later on which is suppose to be a beast.

I agree.

Socket AM3+ won't be dead for a long long time and upgrade capability will be many. I mean the 8350 isnt that much slower then the 3770k, and the 3770k is currently the fastest socket 1155 there is, and with steamroller on the way, AM3+ will be the way to go.
Therefore, use my build http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/10LQF
Its also far more capable then the i3.

Rig update: We went with an AMD build; the buyer waited and didn't get the intel combo when it was on sale. So it worked out to change to a Phenom X4 965, Team Dark DDR3 1600, M5A78L-M, the 450 rosewill instead and the XFX 7850 from NCIX. I completely agree that the intel build would have been a bad choice seeing now that LGA 1155 is basically unsupported in 2014. Dual core is not worth it in my opinion. AMDs 2:1 market strategy against Intel is working good, with the exception of the TDP. But electricity is cheap at the moment, lol.
