I want to throw together a HTPC with SLI just for the look of it.

In a month or so I should be back to full time at work, and I have this 780i motherboard sitting here. I would like to turn it into a HTPC of some fashion. I plan to throw in a decent sound card, get a USB remote of some type, and make this thing as quiet as possible... aside from the gpus of course. I intend to run everything at stock settings, which means I ought to be able to get away with no CPU fan. Hell, with two decent cards I might have enough performance to put my 3DTV to use on a few games even.

What I want to do is fashion some kind of cool bench type case, purely for the neat factor of having an sli setup.

I am not so much worried about power usage, as electricity here is dirt cheap.

I have a core unlocked 465 (448 cores) that I could use in said system, but it is more for the fun of it. Actually, if anyone happens to have a matching 465 to the one I have I might go that route. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130557 is the one I currently have. It would be ideal if the one I purchase was capable of being core unlocked as mine is.

Anyone have any suggestions for cheap sli shenanigans? I would like to keep the cost of the cards under 150 bucks if I can, so obviously I expect to go used. I still need to get a power supply, hard drive (or two) and build some kind of case or another.

I'm not totally clued up on US prices but I can say for a certainty with $150 I wouldn't bother with SLi.

However as you want to though I would do all you can to match the 465 if you can. Failing that in your price range I'd be looking for 460's, 550ti's or a GTX 295 which may be cheating as it's SLi on a single card but offers a lot of power albeit minus DX11 (if UK/US 2nd hand prices are similar it would be in your budget)

Naww, there are hundreds of sli ready cards going for around 50 bucks on ebay from the 200/400 series. They are really old cards. I just hesitate to pick something up from ebay. I keep thinking about the 550s, though my 465 is much faster.

I think you might be right in that being the best option. The question then I guess is whether or not I can get my hands on one...
