Asus Rampage 3 Extreme won't boot

So after over clocking the cpu to 3.7ghz via the pre set in bios I didnt like the temps I was receiving with the coolermaster hyper n5520.
So i changed it back to the 3.33ghz that is also pre set in the bios.
Everything was working fine in both settings, I just didn't like the temps I was seeing. I've had it on the 3. 33ghz for months without any problems.
But after that night I put the computer to sleep like I always do, came home from work the next day and the computer wouldn't start. Opened the case to see this.
I have no way of testing to see if it's the cpu or motherboard as I do not have another cpu or motherboard with that socket.
Some help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Putting a video card in it might help lol

there was one in before I took the motherboard out of the case, took the cpu out and put it back in.
Also it wouldnt hang on cpu if with or without a video card if that were the problem. it would hang on vga without the video card not being present.

Maybe the CPU needs to be reseated. So you moved the mobo into a new case or what is the situation?

I can see you tried booting it with both 8 pins removed, that will def not give any juice to the cpu and that would certainly be your problem.

I also don't understand why one 8 pin connector is a different color than the other.

Something regarding the PSU isn't plugged in correctly. Are you sure you are using the 8 pin EPS connector and not the 8 pin PCI express connector?

I think you might be using the wrong 8 pin and that is why it isn't booting bro.

The mobo has been in the same case since late 2010 when i built the computer. I removed the motherboard to reseat the cpu then put it back in after the problem happend, same case same power that it had before. I knew the comp wouldnt boot when i pulled those 8 pin connectors out.
The only thing that has ever been changed since i built this comp are the gpus, which was a couple months ago.
I just finished pulling the psu out of the comp i'm using to access these forums and testing it in the one i'm having problems with to see if it was a psu issue but still getting the same problem.
