Stumped: My 660 GTX crashing on Metro LL

I have a PNY 660 GTX that has, up to today, performed flawlessly. I have ran 3DMark 11 and the newer one for hours with no problems. My temps never seem to go above 75 under any circumstance, and usually have MSI open for fan control. All my games run perfect, such as gunslinger, TF2, CS:GO, Hitman, and Dirt 3.

Earlier today, I ran Metro Last Light for the first time, and started off by running the benchmark to gauge where I should put the settings. Within 30 seconds, it crashes every single time. I have tried every configuration, low to very high, lowered the memspeed and gpu clockspeed, and downclocked my cpu and ram to no success. I moved my card from the 16x lane to the 8x with the exact same results. Why is it that this game specifically crashes to desktop? The screen will lock up, go white, then black, and then the desktop appears 10 seconds later. I am running the following hardware:

CPU: 2600k @ 4ghz
Ram: Kingston 1600 DDR3 @ 16gb
GPU: PNY 660 GTX stock
OS: Windows 7 SP1
Drivers: 320.18

Can anyone help me discover what is the culprit to constant Metro LL crashing? I would very much love to play this game!

Can you lower the memory clock? Try that and see what happens. Also, does the game slow down considerably before crashing?

Why yes, it does slow down, it slows down to like 10 fps, then 5 fps, then 1 fps until it eventually craps out. I will try lowering the memory again to see what happens.

Well you called it, it was my memory speed. So it appears my card is unstable with stock. Should I RMA for a different one? I had to lower it by 50mhz to run the benchmark successfully 3 times in a row. +rep

Wow. The same thing happened with my Titan, but that was a +700 unstable and a stable +200. I'm glad it worked.

If you want to go through the trouble of an RMA, go for it. From what I've seen, it's not worth it and Metro LL just isn't optimized correctly. As long as every other game runs fine, keep the card.

I don't know if you were aware of this, but NVidia 320.18 drivers are horrible with so many problems on my people's machines. Install 314.22 drivers back and see if the problem(s) still persist.
