Is it just me or it seems like the 770 is just a 680 rebranded and overclocked? If so that's rather disappointing.

The whole 700 series are rebrands.

The GTX 780 isn't rebranded. Its on the same architecture as the Titan, but other then that no similarities. Granted that is also $600, out of OP's budget.

What I would personally do is buy a 7950 or 670 now and then when you need the extra monitors or more ooph then upgrade or X-fire if it's still a viable option.

Iv been researching the same thing,
I went with the 7870 MYST (Tahini)

Even if I had the money to blow on a 1000$ card I wouldn't even think about it.
ESPECIALLY if you don't have any thing crazy like 6x 27" 120hz monitors.

The myst is now 200$ its benchmarked higher then the 660ti and with a overclock you hit around the GTX 670/ ATI 7950.
On top of all that it comes with FREE games!
Isn't that the reason you want a vid card for anyways ... Games.

Oh and by the way, If money is really no option for you.
Id go with the 7970 to (futureproof) it for a week longer tongue.gif
Its also a great card

Your probably right. I think I might just purchase a HD 7970. Then when I add more monitors and AMD sorts out it Crossfire frame rating issues I can just purchase another. Does anyone think since AMD has locked up all the consoles SOC's that developers will maximize their future games for AMD cards? Just a thought.

The word is RadeonPro for frame rating issues. biggrin.gif

I purchased a Sapphire HD 7970 Vapor X earlier this year and sent it back because it was damaged in shipping. Amd still sent me all the codes for the free games. So I have Bioshock Infinite, Crysis 3 already. The funny thing is I cancelled my order to wait for the GTX 700 series and about a week later AMD sent me a code for Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon too. I guess that's why the game aren't really important to me. I will probably just gift the ones I get if I buy another 7970.

If your budget is 1K get a 780 (would wait a bit for the non-reference versions though)

or if you want to be able to play while you wait for the 8 series just get a 7970 in the meantime.

780 is not overkill for 1080p, some games still cannot be maxed out with a single 780 and all the eye-candy enabled. When it comes to single card solutions the word "overkill" does not exist unless you are playing at 1680 x1050 or lower which would be absurd for such a high caliber card.
