AMD A8-3520M APU only gets 1.60ghz but can get up to 3.00ghz

Thread Starter
I'm very new to overclocking, and this website, so point me in the right direction if I'm in the wrong area. But after trying to play PS2 games on my computer, it was way too slow, so I looked into it, and I only get 1.60ghz, but it should be able to get 3.00ghz. If I overclocked it, would I still need to get something better than a stock fan, even though it should be able to get up to 3.00ghz naturally? Can anyone give me a link to how to overclock this certain processor?

How are you coming to the conclusion that your CPU is only running at 1.6GHz?

If you are using CPU-z to come to that conclusion then you need to be taxing the CPU when reading CPU-z so that would mean running something like prime95 or at a bare minimum the CPU test built into the windows experience score.

Anyways... is that a laptop? If so I doubt you can OC it and if you can I would also guess that you would need to use AMD Overdrive which is a download.

If it is a desktop then give us some more info and use the rig builder in your profile to list your rig and then add it into your signature.

It's a mobile CPU for one. If it boosts to 3ghz, then it'll do it on its own.

Although I doubt any laptop CPU boost to like 3ghz. Are you sure your not confusing the desktop and the laptop variant?

I too think there is confusion on this process; still this seems to be a question about the variant of Laptop and desktop.
