3D Monitor for AMD HD 7970

Thread Starter
Hi, I'm kinda looking for a 3D monitor that's compatible with my 7970.

I know amd has a list of recommended monitors but I find that list kinda small.

I live in canada and most of those monitors can't seem to be found (unless i really suck at googling which is a possibility) but the only monitor i found from this list was the ViewSonic V3D231 on NCIX.

Do you think any 3D monitor would work in 3D with the 7970 or only those in the list will work ?

Get the Samsung S23A700D from futureshop, it supports active 3D while the ViewSonic is a Passive 3D TN and is limited to 60hz.

The Samsung is a native 120hz monitor and since it is not a Passive 3D monitor it will provide superior 3D performance

Samsung S23A700D Review

The Asus VG23AH supports up to 76hz in 3D and uses an IPS panel. It uses Passive 3D like the ViewSonic but has a height adjustable stand and will have much better colors and viewing angles.

The Samsung isn't showing up on FS's site. They have a few instock at my local Futureshop, I suggest calling your local store and seeing if they have any available.

The BenQ is a Nvidia 3D Vision display, it won't work.

does the monitor include 3d glasses ?

I just read that 3D at 1920x1080 is limited at 24Hz only ? so no matter how powerful my card is I only get 24Hz in game ?? O_o because usually when im under 30FPS i consider that lagging
post #9 of 10
It comes with the glasses.

Blu-Rays play at 1920x1080@24hz. Consoles are limited to 1280x720@60hz for 3D, and PC's the max out at 1920x1080@120hz. You will need to buy the Tri-Def 3D Software for 50$ for some games while others natively support AMD3D.

There is also a trick to make your gpu think the Samsung is a Nvidia 3D Vision Display, but the Tri-Def software is better and Tri-Def support is better for some games.

So if i buy the S23A700D can i play a game in 3D at 60Hz with a 1920x1080 resolution ? (since the monitor is 120Hz im guessing 60Hz per eye ??) cause ive read on amd website that at 1080p youre limited at 24Hz
