Don't make me pull an 'Anthony Weiner' on this. I do not regret my purchase of the Titan, it depends on what you are upgrading from. In my case, it was the HD 570 so a worthy upgrade.

OP I would wait until there is something worth upgrading for. You know, like GTA V and about that time you can look into the latest AMD solution.

Yeah but in Q3 13 people will be saying that you might want to wait and see Nvidia 8xx cards in the start Q2 14... There always something better coming and we never know how good it will be for sure.

What's the point of upgrading a 7970?

Do you have triple 120hz screens? Even then, it will be a literal waste of money for 95%+ of games.

tough call...
OP - maybe list your HD 7970 and fish (get a feel) for pricing to see how much you'll get for it.
only the GTX 780, GTX Titan, 7970 GE are single card upgrades, no to the GTX 690 and I'm not up on the HD 7990
if those are options for you.

but keep the card for now and just see what price you might gt for it, then decide.
cheers.

Absolutely right, hold off for the 9970. There is no reason to upgrade from a 7970 at the moment unless you suffer from obsessive compulsive upgrading disorder (it's contagious!).

Well if you want something right now the 780 or the Titan are the only two options availible.

if not wait it out, once the 8970 is on the streets you will be able to start another wait it out thread on Maxwell based GPU's

Not trying to be a smart A $$ but there is always something on the horizon.

bottom line here is reguardless of what we are all thinking or would do it matters not, upgrade when you feel there is a high enough preformance gain to justify it to your self.

voted before i saw what card you currently had.
man, i would wait it out, you currently have one of the fastest single card options.
only the 780 and titan are faster than what you have and not by much at all..

Thread Starter
Thanks for all the suggestion guys.

Ok again CF is out of the question, and YES I have another 7970 on standby which I have several times popped back into my system for crossfire and just everytime took it right back out dissapointed in the performance. So yeah I have access to two 7970s but only use one.

Trust me, take my word for it Crossfire is a joke. It's not what its all cracked up to be. Sure you get amazing gains in FPS but whats the point if the Minimum FPS is almost exactly the same as only having one card?

Alseo everyone in here calling it the 8970, I thought AMD was skipping the 89xx moniker and going straight to the 99xx naming? And that only the 89xx would be mobile and console solutions basically rebadged refreshed 79xx series only? Or am I wrong?

Anyways I think I'm just going to wait until the 9970 comes out and HOPEFULLY surpass the Titan in terms of raw performance. Because as of right now Nvidia has left me in disappoint.
