There are plenty of people that think they need an i7 for Facebook, web browsing, MS Office, and movies...

On the plus side, that computer is going to last for more than a decade before it becomes too slow. Unless if GPU-assisted computation becomes the cool new thing.

Before that, I would guess the motherboard, speakers, USB, headphone-jack or HDD to break. A laptop does not last more than a few years if it is used often. My sisters laptop is in pretty bad shape after 2-3 years, and she has not mistreated it. My 5 years old laptop still works and can play some games although the HDMI-port broke a few years ago, but I have only used it a couple of times since I upgraded to a desktop 2 years ago.

It is not just about the difference in CPU frequency in short this is the real situation. wink.gif

Interesting read. Anybody who can benefit from QuickSync....the choice is so obvious.

Although I would never want to play a game on low, at least AMD can run it, I'd say Intel will pour more money on their iGPUs and beat AMD, which is still bad for us.

Benchmarks (HD 7970): Tomb Raider (1920x1080 High) <-- FX-6300 or A8 don't bottleneck a HD7970GE.

In Hitman Absolution, a FX-6300 gets about 10FPS less than a i5-3570k or i5-3550 however.

It suprised me to see a comparison of Crysis 3 on iGPU. So what if the A10-5800k gets 13FPS, it's still garbage even if it's 6 more than an i7-3770k...

Most of the programs don't use the GPU, such as Microsoft Excel.

This is what people get for skimming the TOC instead of articles.

I don't get the feeling that excel is multithreaded at all.....Whenever I work with HEAVY sets of data in excel and make any changes, Excel locks up for a good 20-30 seconds while my CPU is pegged at 25%. Now I can only assume that it's maxing one of the 4 cores, hence 25%. So wouldn't this Excel test be a better singlethreaded performance test? unless 2013 is multithreaded (I have 2010)

well im glad my 930 chip is not out dated. looks like its = to the 2500k (im @ 4ghz) but thare is still 10-15 % improvement. Im glad i got i7 and not a Q9550 chip.

i cant wait till 4670 mite swap to that as the power is killing the power bill here. @ 4ghz its like 200watt. Just for cpu frown.gif

Crysis 3 on the A10 looks playable: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kMlAZ42k7lI

Of course it's not going to run ultra settings, but it's more playable than the HD 4000: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dp5AYAcYiws
