Not to get off topic but lets say I watercool these 6970s what kind of temperature difference would I be looking at? Its really loud during gaming,I didn't understand before why everyone was pushing to watercool but now I see why lol! Anything over 60% fan and its like jet engine in your living room! ( espically with refrence cards)

I don't think it's worth the hassle for a few degrees unless you play in cold ambient temps.

Rather sell those 6970's and get a single card solution with a non ref cooler.

by a few degrees maybe it will be almost silent though also if you get another card I recommend Asus there cooling solution are AWESOME also about your post about people selling the 6970s just look at people's rigs if somebody has a nice rig like a titan or a 7870 more than likely there just gonna trade it for some ram lol now if they have this little 7760 or gtx 650/550 build there gonna keep it and later crossfire it probably.

I actually wanted to come in and give advice to assist you, but it's very difficult to follow you since your thought process is all over the place. You have chosen a topic, however, that people on OCN love which is AMD vs. Nvidia, so your thread has gotten a ton of responses like all AMD vs Nvidia threads do.

If you would like my suggestion, I would not quadfire your 6970s with a 6990 because not only is that a power hungry solution, but the drivers are a headache and the scaling between GPUs is worse as you add more. I wo
uld either go with a pair of 7970s or 780s along with a new 3770K or 4770K processor (when it gets released). You are going to get 1,000 different suggestions, but ultimately it is a decision you have to make.

QFT !
I said back on page 2 that x2 7990's was bad idea because of poor scaling, performance and stuttering issues, then an AMD fanboy told me I was posting misinfo and someone else said I was generalizing. Even after I put up linked article to AnandTech....lol ... That's not very nice is it?

I realize I'm a nobody here, but can I just mention that I'm a Hardware Engineer and 8yr member at Guru3D with 21,000 posts (21K), stating misinfo and generalizing are 2 things I don't do. tongue.gif Just the facts wink.gif

Anyway for the record I have 3 systems and they are all AMD so i can't be called biased either. smile.gif

Thx!

Pillmonster- Don't worry man some of us actually do appricate your input! Seems like some people on ocn just like to be negative on anything you say these days ( just ignore them ) .....So if 2 7990s will cause me problems I will stay away. Maybe wait and see what the 8970 brings us performance wise? I haven't had a chance to read much on the upcoming amd products I usually focus on whats out in the market currently.
Yes you are correct I need to invest in a decent set of headphones any tips what I should be looking at? Can I pick-up something decent for $100 bucks? thumb.gif

Hey, the gtx 770 is out now, you can consider 2 770s for 800 bucks and the performance is equal to a 7990 at 1000 bucks. You can save 200 bucks!
