Trying to build an AMD computer on a budget

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

I've been thinking of building my own rig for some time now and I've come up with what I hope is a good combination of the primary components. I would like to have your opinion on the build.
I would really appreciate it if you could tell me of any cheaper options that are about as good as this build.

Core: AMD FX 8-Core Black Edition FX-8350 (4.0-4.2Ghz)
Graphics: GeForce GTX 660 (2Gb)
MoBo: GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 R3.0
RAM: G.SKILL 8GB
OS: Windows 7 (64-bit)

Thanks in advance,
BlazeBlue52

looks good. I would get the UD3 version of that mobo. you loose a couple of sata ports an a pcie slot but it still does everything the UD5 does and its a little cheaper.

Dont forget an Aftermarket CPU cooler to go with t if you plan on overclocking.

Thanks for your help. I'll go for the UD3 version, it is that little bit cheaper, and every bit helps.

the 8320 is about 30$ cheaper,,,4.0-4.2ghz shouldn't be a problem

I say stick with the UD5, not a good idea to cheap out on the MoBo imho. Stick with the 8350 as well, the CPU is also something you do not want to skimp on either, imho. As of right now I would suggest this GPU over that 660, Sapphire 7870 2GB This GPU also comes with THREE games as compared to the ONE game you get with the 660, it also benches better than the 660Ti, with no OC on the GPU, 660ti vs 7870 @ AnandTech.com. Just a suggestion though since I am not sure what your budget is.
Also;

What is your price range?
Is this mainly a gaming rig?
Are you going to OC that 8350?
Are you dead set on an Nvidia GPU?
Are you shopping online, if so, which sites?

Let the community know a little more detail and you will get more help. Cheers. thumb.gif

Do not go with the 990fxa-ud3. It has been plagued with problems. Throttling, warped pcb, and overheating NB just to name a few. I was in the same situation just a few months ago and I am really really glad I went with the 990fxa-ud5 and the 8350.

OP if you're trying to save cash get the 8320, it's cheaper than 8350 but overclocks exactly the same. Just be sure to get an aftermarket cooler as mentioned already. smile.gif

I have to disagree with you there. Every chip is different, and I'm quite sure the 8320s are binned lower. I went with the 8320, thinking that it would overclock up to 8350 levels easily. I also bought a Phanteks cooler to make sure I could keep it cool. It's really quite horrible trying to get it above 4 GHz. It's unstable at 4.2 with a core voltage of 1.45, and I can't get the voltage much higher without heating it up too much during stability testing. I've also read that for every-day usage, voltage should stay below 1.45 for the FX series? Is that true or no? I definitely regret not spending the little extra to get the 8350.

OP, it's completely up to you though. It depends how valuable overclocking is to you. The 8320 still performs fine for everything, including gaming.

Low-end ASRock?

Might as well get 970a-ud3 in that case
